old nomad went from 33lb build

to sub 29lb build now

so many changes… fork, pinner wheels, air shock, homebrew dual chainguide, 2x10… tires make such a difference… as does a 50, 60 or 70mm stem!… climbing oriented build right now… still rips pretty good with 170mm DH lyrik, minion EXO, RP23 though…

Looks great!

Man, my slayer keeps getting heavier and heavier as I outfit it for shuttling. I should post my Element MSL on here now that it is my weight weenie bike.

My new bike. Trek Scratch Air 9 with a few changes. Fox 180mm Talas, 1X10 drivetrain with a single 32T ring up front and a 11-36 XT cassette in the rear. Shifting is handled by the XT derailleur (switched it to the med cage) and XT shifter, and the chain is held on by an E13 LG1+ guide. RF Atlas FR cranks. Elixir CR brakes. DT-Swiss E2000 wheels. RF atlas bar, Thompson stem, Reverb post and Fizik Aliante seat, ODI crosstrainer grips, MG1 pedals, Minion EXO tires (3C front, 60a rear) complete it. Still need to dial in a last few bits and shorten up most of the lines but I can still have fun riding it till then.

like.

Me to, and I know where he lives………

Josh, what does she weigh in at?

Please let me demonstrate the ride around; really it's no trouble.

She's a hair under 33 1/2lbs. Not going to win any medals I guess. Don't really care. So much fun to ride around. It's been a great bike to keep me from getting lazy. It's my first bike I have had that's actually fun to pedal up the trails so I can get out and have a boot around even if I'm not in the mood for climbing up fire roads. I probably ride it most on fromme with the front at 140mm travel and propedal on. If I didn't have friends who rode up cypress and whistler regularly I would have got a smaller bike. Maybe one day I'll get an XC bike too. I have a good long list of bikes that would be sweet to own…

^ Something about the Banshees really looks right. Simple, but sexy. Nice bike. You like I presume?

It's perfect for my riding style, so yeah, I love it.

thx. yeah my build would get trashed from shuttles (rear XX brake is not shuttle worthy, nor are 1500g wheels and 650g rear tire… that's about all i'd change though for shuttles… also a 60mm stem… surprised i'm not missing my CCDB that much). i'm lucky to have other bikes to shuttle with. while one bike can indeed do everything, there is no way one bike can cover the spectrum that 2 or 3 dedicated, purpose built bikes can. the nomad is certainly the pedal machine in the quiver though!

i'm convinced i'll replace this bike in a year or so with a 120-140mm 29er! and it will ride better 80-90+% of the time… hurry up bike industy, my next AM 29er needs 1x10 gearing with 8-36 rear cassette… i've got my 2x10 FD setup dialed but it's still nothing compared to a proper 450% gear range 1x10 with DH guide… i'll likely have to drop the top end gearing given that 9-36 seems to be the direction things are going… i still say, why not 8T???

thx.

what i noticed between my earlier 33lb setup:

climbing/AM riding: - bike feels like it has an engine in it, it doesn't slow down and keeps so much of it's momentum, acceleration is noticeably quicker, feels like cheating on the way up, eats crazy tech climbs for breakfast (ie. that rock move immediately east of expresso/BP junction on BP)

descending: - bike bounces around side to side off stuff more (less weight/momentum in the wheels), rider has to do more to make up for lighter setup

overall i'd say the lighter setup is 25% better climbing and only 10% worse descending which for me is an overall better ride…

Just went for my first ride on my new 6[HTML_REMOVED]6 bike. Guessing 30.5lbs final weight.

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

My new rig:

2011 Carbon Nomad
180MM Fox Float
Fox DHX Air
Shimano XT 2X10 gears

2 Wheelsets:
Mavic 823's with Minion DHF 2.5 2ply in the rear and EXO up front
Mavic 321's with Rocket Ron Evotution 2.4 tires (shown)

The 823 setup will be my daily setup, the 321 will get pulled out when the XC riding is extra smooth and flowy.

She weighs in at 34.4lbs with the 823 setup. and my calculations would put her around 31lbs with the 321 setup.

I plan on taking this on the 7 summits, down Goats gully, aline, over many road gaps, anywhere and everywhere. I'm coming off of a 2008 Nomad which I rode everywhere and loved, this one is lighter, stiffer, better in every way over my old one.

I've done a few solid XC rides and some downhilling and she ripped at both.

I think they'd need to make a good half link chain for an 8t to feel smooth, but yeah…I'd love to see one.
