Don’t use regular WD40, it’s not really a lubricant. Some other sort of spray lube like WD40 specialist silicone dry lube is okay, but really a synthetic grease like Super Lube is probably best.

I'm about to convert 2 of our bikes from 11spd to 12spd using GX cassettes and XT derailleurs and shifters. The forums on mtbr have tested just about every combination around and it apparently works well.

I would have preferred to stay all Shimano but none of my current hubs have microspline freehubs available and I can get xd drivers.

I picked up all the components last week, between Kinetik Cycles in Port Moody and TBS Bikes, everything was stocked.

You'll likely need to fish longer derailler housing through the frames too to make up for the extra loop of Shimano derailleurs.

Getting that stuff through the chainstays of some bikes is  &#%!@?!*

I always leave the old cable inside as a guide wire. Never gonna make that mistake again

Dropping $100 for that microspline driver when you already have a functioning XD driver is painful though eh.

When the clutch wore out on my GX derailleur a few months ago I threw an XT on there I found used.

Missed having some of the little SRAM details like the button to hold the derailleur up, the cable routing via the roll-a-ma-jig, the bigger pulleys, etc.

How's the weight penalty going from GX to SLX?

If you think that's bad. It's nearly $300CAD for a microspline driver for the I9 Hydra hubs in my WR1 wheels.

Started using the new e13 Helix R cassette with a 12 speed XT derailleur and shifter about a month ago....So far I'm impressed. Shifting is super smooth (feels as smooth as my buddy's full Shimano setup) and I didn't have to spring for a new Microspline driver for my carbon wheels...The e13 cassette is pricier than XT, but I saved on the driver update, and saved 120g compared to the XT 12 speed cassette, so all's well that ends well! Plus, when the 2 alu cogs wear out on the e13 I can replace just them....
