New XTR trail brakes for DH ?

Im in the market for some new brakes, thought I was going to get Saints brakes but after hearing GREAT things about the new XTR brakes, Im tempted to try them on my DH.

I love how much power you get from the Saint but they are almost too grabby for my likings.Ive been on severals different sets of Elixirs ( and absolutely hated them ) and Im wondering how the XTR would stack up against the Elixirs in terms of power.

Im light and not a brake dragger.Anyone has had time on these ?

I like the weight of the XTR :agree: From what I hear they might have more useable ( better modulation ) power as well

can't be me, I just read great stuff about them in an issue of Dirt - actually the ed from Dirt loved them so much that he really thinks they would be more than up to DH use.

I was thinking about them as well, but then I came across an awesome deal on Gustavs - and now I am rocking Gustav Ms. Most awesome brake ever.

And Shimano haven't got a clue how they managed to do it.

All I hear is they're like Saint's with a step down in rotor size. From the feel of them I'd say snap them up, super sick brakes.

Shimano should have figured out how they melted the rotor, it's fairly obvious that them being German did it.

I heard that some motorcycles have similar aluminum steel sandwiched rotors for the heat dissipation. Is that true? I was not able with a quick search the other night to confirm that. I would like to know what the test consisted of, was it a realistic test? Real riding test?

Have they been tested for long descents for fading? They may be a good light altnerative to Saints.

i've had a set of xtr trail brakes since the fall. they are the best brakes i've tried so far (compared to many different avid's, shimano's, formula's, magura's). they don't need bleeding out of the box!

they have incredible modulation - anywhere from 10% to infinity comes on smooth and linear without ever feeling grabby - this is a very unique feel, much different than saints or elixir's (for example, which feel grabby and non-linear).

power is great - far more than old xtr, a little less than saint, similar to elixir or formula "one". they are silent, even when wet. they don't vibrate/warble. they have useful adjustments. they fit nicely with shimano shifters, not sure about sram. the lever blade ergonomics and throw feel perfect. the cooling fins get very hot on long descents, don't touch!

I use the XT brakes for DH with no problems, so i cant see one with the XTR trails.
