New shorts time. What you recommend? (Don't suggest RF Stage)

What is the go to short these days?  My 8 year old Buzz shorts are barely hanging on and the new Stage shorts are pretty much the worst constructed short I have ever experienced.

I have had nothing but bad experiences with the RF shorts, they wear out way too fast.

The Dakine stuff seems to last for time in the the saddle.

Endura shorts for winter are great but spendy.

They all wear out but I just want a pair to last a season, not a few rides.

I have a couple pair of Giro Truant shorts and I like them quite a bit.

I've been using the chromag ambit's for the past few seasons and really like the cut and fit, they've been very durable too

I find the Race Face Ambush shorts last quite a while. I think I got 3 seasons out of my first pair probably 120+ rides (I stopped using other shorts as they weren't as comfortable). I'm on my second pair now 2 seasons in and no problems. They are a bit heavier but offer at lease some skin protection from sliding crashes.

Still using the Race Face Ruxtons which I use all year round apart from the hottest summer days.

Flexible panels, air holes and reasonable belt adjustment. The material is really bulletproof and kind of dwr for rain. They feel like a lighter version of the older TLD moto short for reference.

The zipper is the weak link on these so I’m going to get it replaced with a chunkier YKK one soon

I like Platzangst Shorts, especially the Trailslide. Maloja are not bad as well. Not a big fan of Cube's and Alpinestars' shorts.

All shorts tend to last a long time for me, so i won't recommend anything i use myself. But the guys i know who are tough on their riding gear tend to use work-wear shorts, not bike-specific ones. Sounds sensible, because workshorts are designed for daily abuse and should be more durable than anything made for biking. Cheaper too.

I have never worn out a pair of troy lee skylines. I also like my chromags - better quality than most others, only one season though so I cannot comment on durability. Lastly, I just got some IXS and they are great so far

For pedaling I like Zoic Ethers, lots of strech- They have no use in rain or cold weather

For Shuttle days- TLD Moto: so stiff they stand on their own

Endura Hummvee is very comfy. Worth the cost.

I bought the Chromag Ambit shorts with high hopes but they turned out to have a fatal flaw. The metal clip on the side used to sinch them up is a thin piece of cast metal. It can't withstand any kind of load. Emailed. Chromag and they shipped me out a fresh set of cheap cast clips, as they are well aware of the flaw. Avoid them at all cost.!!!

On a positive note. I bought a pair of Specialized "Enduro Bro" shorts and they have been amazing. Great mobility, tough outer and not bad venting. Only beef is the pockets are completely vertical so that is a bit odd.
