New fork time - 29er 140mm travel

So,
after a less than stellar budget driven fork choice, i'm now shopping for various forks to put on the front of my Surface.
I'm a bigger guy +200pounds on a good day, pushing 215 right now. The surface is my only bike, but i don't let the lack of rear suspension stop me. Looking for a trail fork that can do nice mellow XC with typical island rooty trails, to more 'enduro' style dh rides on the island, squamish and the lower mainland

I bought a used Float 34 EVO with the intention of grabbing a Avalanche cart. to replace the internals, however with the tank in the Cnd vs USD it's not as cheap of a deal , PLUS my CSU creaks like my knees feel … so the cost of both upgrades almost equals a new fork.

Seems like everyone says the way to go is Pike .. RCT3 and be done.
I could get a DVO Diamond and be different, anyone ride one?
I have never really been a Fox fan, but i'd consider another higher end Fox product if the price is right.

anyone have any suggestions, X-Fusion Trace with the rough cut damper? Manitous offerings?

I went from a FOX Factory 34 RLC TALAS to a FOX Factory 36 FLOAT RC2 on my Surface lowered the travel from 150mm.

No experience with any other forks mentioned.
I seem to run the current "untrendy" fork at a given time. Meh shrugs shoulders

Swerx would be a good place to contact as they could give you advice on the FOX, DVO and Suntour fork if you want.

Why slag free swag?:rolleyes:

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

yeah. i thought about a 36, and i'm not against them.

Suntour forks are surprisingly good too.

I really love my X-Fusion Trace….get it serviced once a year and it's awesome.

If you want bling though the dvo looks pretty sweet.

I'm 6'6" 220lb. I've been on a Pike for two seasons and have been pleasantly surprised by how awesome and robust it is. I had many Fox 36s before that, which worked great but needed a lot of work up front to get them to work right (though I've heard the new 36s don't need this as much). The Pike is very stiff for what it is. Occasionally I overpower it but those times are rare. I've heard great things about the new Fox 36 but I'll likely aim for the new Lyrik when they become available. Seems like just the right level of extra stiffness I was looking for. But for a 29er it only comes in 150 and 160. I guess I'm saying you should consider the Pike.

290 holy shit!! what rear rim can handle BC riding on a hardtail for a dude your size and make it through a season? you must be a helluva gear tester!

I have friends who are really great wheal builders. Running Stan 29er Flow rims with 14 gauge spokes. The only part that really gets the shit kicked out of it by me are free hubs. Running Hope Hubs for a couple of years and replaced 4 steel freehub bodies. I'll eventually upgrade to a Chris King.

So all you manufactures who want to torture Test your bike parts under a fat bastard, I'm for hire. : )

I'll be in your hood for the next 4 days. Really sorry to hear about Thirsty Beaver. One of the best trails out there. Hopefully i'll ride it couple of times over the next few days. If you see a fat bastard also known as Sheldon, on a Chromag Rootdown say hi, it's likely me.

+1 for the Pike RCT3 Solo. I've been running a 150mm on the front of my Tallboy LTc for a couple of years and have been nothing but impressed. Very rare that it feels overpowered, and has saved me on more than a few occasions.

yeah .. i'll pass on the lyric. my hope would be everyone flocks to it and i can get a sweet deal on a lightly used Pike….. i can dream can't i?

i,m sticking with mine gonna put a charger dampner in it when they are available , i have noticed since switching to it i have had less hand cramping issues as well .
