New Evil 6" 29er: The Wreckoning

It's curious that the first I've seen of this bike is in print (latest issue of Bike). Hardly a peep online about it. Has anyone put any time on a Following?

pinkbike thinks we're finally? strangely? going to see the rise of the 6" 29er megadestroyer next year. i for one welcome our new wagonwheeled overlords

There is plenty of talk about it over on the Evil board on MTBR.com under the Evil LT 29er thread. I believe it will be named the 'Wreckoning, but Im not sure if that is rumor or fact. Evil is putting out some cool bikes, but I personally would still not invest in one quite yet.

Agreed. Their seat tube angles basically kill the bike for any taller riders who actually want to climb with it.

Handle "el_jefe" has one.

Ride with him all the time, he loves it and it doesn't even seem like he is riding a 29er. Has a low BB, slack and burly.

Yeah the STA on the Following is quite slack too. A bike's gonna have to be pretty special to outbid the E29 for my money. Though I hear there are revisions of the E29 and the Tallboy coming. It's a good time for 29ers.

I dont ride 29 or 27.5 for that matter (yet), but Id pick Spec or SC over Evil just based on support and CS alone. Evil is bringing some cool ideas and bikes to market pretty quickly, but I think that their quality and CS is suffering because of it.

Canfield Riot is also a sick 29er worth considering. They're also in Bellingham so local support goes with it.

Haha yeah! i love my Following! It is a great bike for the N Shore, Burke, Squamish etc. Love it lots! I have had a couple of Nomads, VP Free, Hecklers etc and I can pop off stuff just as good and climb just as good as my Old TallBoy. Too bad there's no dealers in Canada so had to buy direct. 29ers are far from dead and so goes for Evil!

I just recently switched to a Kona Process 111, and I have to say I'm in love with it. It's the first 29er I've ever owned.

Like most, I think I had a preconception that 29ers are jalopies, for XC only, flexy wheels, you name it. This bike rips though, and it was one of the first of the new breed of long, low, slack 29ers. It's interesting that this trend towards progressive geometry 29ers started on the short end of the travel spectrum, and is now moving into the longer range stuff.

At 6' tall, and as the geo numbers get more progressive, I can't see myself switching back to a 26/27.5 wheel any time soon. I only wish I'd given this new breed of 29ers a chance earlier!

For reference I'm coming off of a Process 153 that I've been on since late 2013 and for the type of shore riding I do, I find i'm faster in all aspects of my riding now. Uphill and down. The big wheels just want to pull you over and through everything!
