I know these threads people kinda hate on. But I have been out of the biking scene for awhile. If you had $4000 to spend on a bike what would you get. I'm looking for something 6- 7 inches of travel and a long travel single crown fork. A dual ring guide would be nice as I never have had a bike in the past that could pedal all that well. I'm 6'2 235 lb. Ideas that come to mind are the new faiths or reigns, rocky flat line, demo 8 or 7 Not a huge fan of Norco but at the same time willing to look into anything. Thanks for any help. Also the trails I ride would be, 7th, oilcan- upper and lower, diggers, pink starfish, boundary, and whistler and vedder also.

agree that a remedy is a wicked bike, but for a rider who is in the 235 range it could a tad light for long term durability. the 09 might not be too bad, but the 2010 are even lighter and less travel to boot.

the scratch could be the better ticket.
sx trail, demo, faith..tons of bikes you should go throw a leg over

What about a Session 8 (or 88 fr) Think it retails for 3999 CDN.

Or buy mine and have money left over.

I ride a Reign X and do much the same riding you have described. I'm 6'1'' 220lbs and find the Reign X can do almost everything. Pedals well, jumps great. Climbs decent but can still do the park (Whistler, Silverstar). I switched out the fork for a '07 66 RC2X and it makes it much nicer (IMO) than the 36 for park riding and my weight. Add some Minion DH's and it's a capable shore bike.

Only downside is the BB runs pretty low, so I occasionaly hang up on some technical stuff, but nothing too bad. And the bash guard does its job for that.

The 2010s claim to be 2-3 lbs lighter than the current generation. I'd say they're worth a look.

I second the ReignX. I just started riding one and it is a very capable bike. Climbs well and descends very well. Will handle most things on the shore and will be fine for Whistler. I am a bit lighter than you so I can't comment on the durability under a heavier rider.

It's all about fun.

Banshee scythe, you can set it up 7 and 7, uninterrupted seat post, super stiff rear end for heavy abuse and word on the street is that the 2010 kits will fit right into your price range with a totem. Also there are some places out there that are still offering the Knolly Del-t's at a screaming price (like a $1000) off and it would deff be at the top of the budget but might be worth looking into.

I believe the weight loss for the Remedy in 2010 is due to a lighter fork and more trail bike parts spec. The new Scratch is intended to take up the slack in the light FR segment for Trek, so the Remedy is being dummied down a bit… but the prices are quite high.

Transition Blindside for a larger travel bike, the new Covert as a 6 and 6. I rode the Covert hard at Silver Star today and it was awesome! Did a hard 3 hr all mountain ride with it the day before and was equally impressed with its climbing. Great all round bike. There is always a Bottle Rocket too, depends on how much pedalling you plan to do.
