Having owned both Hope and DT Swiss IMO this is a better quality product for the $$ . They are locally based and support builders as well .

As for spokes design , I have used straight pull and prefer J bends .

I like DT Swiss spokes and rims.  J-bend is your best bet.  DT Swiss Competition (double butted) are very common and build up well.  If you want to get fancy, bladed spokes are strong and light, but expensive and harder to build up.  My nipple of preference are also DT Swiss with Pro-lock (saves you having to put spoke prep on all your spokes).  Many will swear by brass nipples for longevity (at the cost of weight), but the DT Swiss Al ones I have used seem to hold up well.  Also getting hex head or squorx head nipples means you dont have to use a spoke wrench when tensioning/truing your wheels.  This option is nice to have, but not a necessity.

Get the the 36t star ratchet if you get the DT hub. The stock 18t star ratchet has petty slow engagement. They also make a 54t ratchet, but some reviews suggest that it suffers in durability since the teeth are finer. The Hope has a 44t mechanism which is decent. The freehub on the Hope is loud and the DT is quiet.

Someone mentioned bearing issues with the Hope hubs. On my old Pro2 Evo, the original bearings died but the replacement bearings were good over 2 more years after swapping them in. I’ve had a Pro 4 for over year and the original bearings are going strong.

For rims, the Easton AR/ARC rims are pretty soft and dent easily. I have been through a few. My vote would be for a Flow MK3. They dent less easily than your current rims, and are a pretty standard choice where you can’t really go wrong. Even the lighter Arch MK3 held up better for me than the Easton rims. The BA30 seems unnecessarily heavy to me.

I have been a huge fan of DT Swiss star ratchet over the years, the 350 is best bang for the buck. They have been the epitome of reliable and value, above average bearing life too. As mentioned the 36t stars are the sweetspot, nice enough upgrade over the stock 18t without the durability concerns or cost of the 54t.

The only beef I've heard of the rear hubs is difficulty removing the drive ring to get at the bearing for replacement, but this is a job I would leave at the shop anyways. Everything else is super easy to service at home without any specialty tools.

I also have a P321 quiet rear wheel and that thing is a real treat, not as much time on it thus far though but from what I've read the current ones seem quite reliable.

I have a Range 7.2 I has race face Arc rims and they are good but a bit soft. I am now running DT Swiss XM 481 with 350 hubs and could not be happier. The XM481 is a tough rim. I have done Pano park days, Forbidden Plateau shuttle days, shore days, CBC shuttle laps, tons of Gnarnaimo riding. The rims are still great.

J-Bend vs Straight pull- Only for shop availability- Most shops stock J-Bend

Tarinwheels- Its a tough one to buy into, IMHO- as they are so new with so few reviews vs. countless DT swiss reviews

The other option you have is to build a sweet rear wheel vs a set, You'd save a couple of hundred right there...but you have to be ok with not being matchy matchy guy

Yes . I have front and rear hubs from them . I have roughly 500km on them with no issues

Now I just need to find out prices for different combinations and make a decision.

The newer 240/350 hubs do not require the removal of the drive ring to remove the drive side bearing. :-)

From the feedback from this forum and reviews from other site, I've narrowed my options to DT Swiss 350(36 star ratchet) and Hope 4Pro hubs. The other suggested are out of my price range or have a lack of reviews due to being relatively new. As for rims I'm leaning towards the DT Swiss XM 481 or EX 511 or Spank oozy 350. I'll most likely go with the DT Swiss rims unless the Spank oozy are significantly cheaper. As for the Stan's, from the reviews they seem a bit softer.
