Dropbars?
It was in the options, but not initially at least. It'll start triple hard, riser bars and 29x2... The future is unknown.
Velo - worth a look if you can get the geo to work. The TT maybe a bit long on the 9er.

It's still a possibility, the 9er has very close geo to my Moxie, but is a medium rather than large, so there's length available via stem or bar extention.
I've got some hydro roadie brakes in the crate (no shifters) so it will probably happen in the endless Lego shuffle.
Raiding the parts box to build a bike is fun.
Can't wait to see the build.
Ready for the shakedown ride.
I think the cranks, bar and stem will get swapped soon, other parts will no doubt come and go.
The fork looks incredibly similar to my Surly Krampus fork.
It's looking good.

It's off a friend's Karate Monkey. Heavier than heavy, but sturdy with a rack and overloaded panniers.
I've given it a tart up via cosmetic swaps already, I'll get a spot-the-difference pic in the morning.

It's a beast of a fork, I never weighed mine but it is significantly heavier and chunkier than the Bird Forge and the old Krampus QR fork I have. Like all things Surly - it'll survive the apocalypse. Mine is in black so it's slimming.

Never weighed mine either, but I've held it in one hand with a 29" Lyrik in t'other... Simpler isn't always lighter.
Spot the difference!
Almost no functional change, but much more attractive to my eye.
Somebody's been polishing... I like the purple stem as well.

Nah, I'm lazier than that, there are just two 27.2x410 Thomsons in the house.

Sweet, I would be the same. Polishing is a PITA.

Long live the dropper post but nothing beats the look of a long-ass polished seatpost on an XC machine!
Indeed. I have a dropper for it, my scheme is to swap the wheels off a mountain bike, go high-volume low-tread rubber, fit the dropper and do some camping adventure rides.
This is the commuter version.
Shakedown ride featured a singletrack climb, road to the coast, then shingle, dirt path, road and protected cycleway around this tiny city.
Mostly good. Some ergonomics to sort, but it's very peppy, this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship.
