Mounting a Shiver on a BigHit - Impossible?

I was double checking the specs on the Shiver DC as I'll probably be getting one real soon and noticed it says max steerer length between crowns of 145mm with standard crown and 163mm with high crown. My '03 Medium BigHit has a steerer tube length of 137mm and a Race Face Diabolus or Chris King headset adds 31mm … so it would seem neither crown would work.

Now I know this is a real common combo (and OEM in '02) … so what gives? Am I figuring this wrong?

Also … is the high crown the one that normally is in the box, or the standard (I know that seems to make no sense, but neither does a max 145mm crown - crown height)?

That sucks … it's strange the standard crown is limited to 145mm. After a RF or KCG headset you could only fit them on a max 4.5" headtube … that seems real small for a DH/FR fork :???: . I guess I'll need to make sure I get the High/Drop crown. Thanks

I also noticed on the Marzocchi site that all the rumors of the '05s having 888 cartridges was a hoax … same adjustability and internals … just new color. Looks wicked though:thepimp:!

You could get one a $12 Aheadset. It has a pretty low stack height. ;)

My friend has a medium Big Hit DH (2003) with a shiver.

His fit with a regular crown, no drop crown required.

It's tight, but it works fine.

Maybe call up some other shops to see if there's one floating around?

Most shivers come with the right crown. You shouldn't have any problems, they fit mine fine. Although I have a very thing headset.

Look on pinkbike for a picture with a shiver and a bighit.

I have one ordered now its supposed to be here mid oct.

the fork is deadly , there is no doubt. way nicer than my boxxer pretty much as bad ass as my monster but w/ out that extra 5 lbs.
I could probably run it as is , but having the drop crown will be better.
