Minion SS for the shore

I'm really getting tempted to try a Minion SS in the back with a DHF out front this summer. I mostly ride Fromme and Seymour. Anybody here tried one of these yet? Will I regret it on rock and wood or when things get steep? Does any moisture = sketch city?

I ran the slaughter last year and liked it. It all depends on if you're the type that likes to skid into corners or not. If you're a drifter/skidder then you'll hate it.

I'm certainly not a drifter or a skidder.

drifty-ness is one of my favorite features of semi slicks.

Been running the Schwalbe one (Cant remember the name) in Super Gravity casing on my trail bike up in Whistler for all of the late summer last year. Absolutely love that thing. You have to be a semi competent biker who leans the bike into corners to get the most out of it. Never really had an issue on the wet roots and rocks of the fall on it either.

Issue I had with the SS wasn't the lack of braking grip so much as it was with the very square profile.

My Slaughter has been good year-round. If I lived somewhere with stickier dirt than the Shore, I'd probably go with a more open tread, but these seem to do okay around here in the wet.

I have one on a narrow set of XC rims (21mm internal), really like it. I approve of the non-3C compound with Silkworm. It might actually last a month :-). Really strong cornering bite, just like the slaughter. Very square profile and honestly, I'm not sure I would want it on my wider wheelset…

Slaughter Grid here on the back of my Chromag. Like it so far. Ridden it in Pembertonn, Squamish and Fromme, no complaints, no sketchy moments, lots of braking performance surprisingly

One thing is the SS does have more straight line grip than comparable tires, if that's the concern. There's a bit more going on with the center tread than other semi slicks, and the tire's so square that a side knobs is often engaged whether intentional or not.

When you say straight line traction….you must mean climbing or ecelarating?

im also looking at the SS.. looks like a decent summer rear tire..

I might go for it, could be fun. We probably won't get any real rain until at least September anyways! The last semi-slick I ran was a Lopes Bling Bling, which had DHF side knobs and tiny little square centre tread. It was pretty fun but at the time I didn't ride any shore trails. I mostly drifted it around the gravel in Pacific Spirit Park hahaha.

I have a Rock Razor on the Surface and the V10 :lol:
