dhf is faster rolling by a long shot. why? because the tire engineers engineered it that way.

okay i should mention I'm trying to win an argument here.

i also voted dhf as the faster rolling tire but then i realized that was based on some pink bike chatter and maybe i didn't actually have the facts…..i need facts/data if i can get them..

The only data/fact available is that DHR 2's won last weeks race.

In my experience DHF is faster if it's not packed.
edit: tire packed with mud, packed dirt DHF faster.

On the front? On the rear? High Roller or HR2?

DHR2 is a freakin amazing tire! Great run as front [HTML_REMOVED] rear combo or with a DHF up front. So much traction and burly knobs that don't fold under hard cornering. IMO it rolls better than a DHF and HR2 and I've tested multiple versions of them back to back to back to….

Dhf has less space between the knobs with bigger, blockier knobs.

in this case we were talking rear tire. high roller.. but I'm interested overall.. i did find this article..http://www.pinkbike.com/news/maxxis-minion-dhf-275-review-2014.html

its 650b, i don't think that changes the tread pattern tho…

I used to run Highrollers and they felt slow when pedaling/climbing. I have been running DHF's front and rear for a while now and I feel they roll more efficiently. I suppose there are arguments to made for traction differences but I think the DHF's offer the best of both worlds.

My experience is with the 26" versions

Im running dhr2 2.3 tr exo rear in 26 and dhf 2.3 tr exo 650b front.
Very very happy with this combo. They are on wtb frequency i23's rims tubeless.
Loving this setup…

I have little to quantify my results, but the DHF is a faster rolling tire no matter where you mount it. Those big blocks and all.

The HR2 is definitely better used as a front tire rather than on the rear in soft/intermediate conditions. The knobs are kinda small for the rear and gets chewed up easily.

The DHR2 is a very good intermediate rear tire that compliments either the DHF or HR2 nicely.

that's always been my experience. but when racing the 4 queens/kings, i noticed that hr rear/dhf front was a really popular combo for trail bikes in whistler, where they know from fast and techy

I'm thinking a HRII front DHF would actually be a better choice with what I know now.
This coming from a person who used to run a DHF front HR rear.

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

The DHR II has the same exact side knobs as a DHF so it turns the same, but the center knobs are lightyears better for braking than a DHF.

I just started strava-ing and I've done the same downhill on 26" DHF front and rear on the DH bike, and 27.5 HR2 f[HTML_REMOVED]r on the trail bike. My times have been identical.
