Well, you should organize something to make their Sierra Club donations more well known in the industry if it bothers you that much.

I know that locally they give a lot to the local club, donations, they have had lots of staff come out for trail days and givin away a lot of schwag to the local trailbuilders.

Does that make the Sierra Club donations a good thing…no, it does not but it also does not negate all of the good they have done for Mt. Biking either.

The only thing I ever really buy there is Tubes…half the price over bike shops…lol…but all my other bike stuff gets bought at Sooke Cycles…best service and bikes near Vic. :D

Ruck march Thursday! :woot:

Fuck the ruck march. Where doing the infantry battle test. 10km speed march with full pack, rifle, and combat load. The whole route will be sandy double track.

then without pause, 100m knockdown the steel plates with 20 rounds. And then immediatly folowed by 100m carry of fire team partner. Then immediatly do the obstacle course in full webbing and with rifle.

Then pause for a refreshing drink from the a Royal Marine Canteen..

you know you're a gear monger too - admit it.

the day they issued you your ruck, webbing, compass, boots etc (your KIT) was one of the happiest in your life.

come on - you know its true…

Yes, because I didn't pay for any of it.

And then promptly tried to figure out what shit I actually needed out of the useless crap they issued. Whoever thought that Garrison dress was useful was definitely a Quebexican.

Think locally…

How much does MEC donate to your local mountain bike organizations, trail days, and builders in Sooke?

How much does MEC donate to the Western Canada Wilderness Committee? (you can check it out here: http://www.mec.ca/Apps/GrantRecipients/enviroFund.jsp)

….

What does the Western Canada Wilderness Committee (a regular partner of the Sierra Legal Defence Fund) think of you mountain biking in Sooke?

….

"- Prohibit mountain biking on the trails in order to
minimize erosion and damage to sensitive ecosystems as
mountain bikers often go off-trail(eg. damage to
sensitive moss/lichen outcrops). Mountain bikers
already have an extensive trail network at the Hartland
Landfill site."

Here is a little story on the whole thing that NSMB.com cooked up:

Thank you NSMB! [HTML_REMOVED]3

Everyone gets to decide for themselves the value of:

…the $10 brake pads

But the tools are definitely available to make an educated decision.

Interesting post. I must admit to being a fan of MEC in the past but maybe it's time for a change. I still remember a bike mechanic friend accusing me of supporting the COMMUNISTS by shopping there.

Holy carp this has sure stirred up a mess! Like kicking over an anthill.

Maybe we need to do a MTB take-over of MEC - elect some people to the executive/board of directors and change their attitude for them.

I have 21,474,850 rep points...

Thanks Drew….lol…nice find on quote…but you gotta lower the price of the fucking louise brake pads, thats highway robbery…LOL…

I took a look around that mec donations page earlier today….and they give A LOT to Sierra…that made up my mind there, now this info is even better. Gunna send a letter or make a post on my the SIMBS site when I have some time and see what they say.
