Maxxis DHF 2.6

Anyone use this tires and can comment on them? Thinking about trying one but it would be an expensive $90 experiment if it doesn't pan out. I ride Seymour and Fromme (always ride up) with the occasional park day.

Test ridden on a couple of our shop demo bikes.... in my opinion they are amazing.     I would expect great grip on the Shore.   Not sure about park days?

I can’t comment on the 2.6 DHF, but I have enjoyed my 2.6 Butcher over the past year. It feels like a normal tire but is more forgiving providing grip in corners (ultimate cornering grip might be similar to the 2.3, but you can just slam it into corners and it hooks up in a way the 2.3 doesn’t). I run low-20s PSi. No drawbacks.

The butcher 2.6 (tested in 29er) measures just over 2.425 with the caliper (after being stretched), which is still big considering that the 2.3 measures are 2.2.  Not sure if Maxxis has the same thing going on.

Just an update for the Maxxis DHF 2.6 mounted onto a 29mm ID rim (WTB i29). I think it'll stretch out a bit more still. It's not too much wider than the 2.3 but seems to have greater volume. Riding this weekend so I'll have some ride impressions then. 

This is the DHF 2.6 newly mounted and not stretched out (38psi).

Here it is after a day and mounted up as tubeless (35psi).

That really fattened up maybe I'm glad I didn't sell mine. Initially, on a 30mm id rim it looked too rounded like it would need a 35mm id rim to square off.

Yesterday I saw one installed at a shop on a 35mm inside rim and it was fat, almost as fat as the 2.8" minions on my plus bike. Like you'd expect, in between a normal bike and a plus bike, but closer to a plus bike really.

I think you need 35mm+ internal width rims to really get the best of it.

Well I rode the tire today at SFU just for a short ride as I had things to do and the weather was brutal. Tough to say in the slop to be honest. I started the day off at about 22psi and it felt too hard with too much rebound. I dropped the pressure down to about 17 and it felt much better. Not too sure I'd ride it this low all the time and only some better conditions testing will tell. With a max pressure of 40 or 45 psi this is a high volume tire where I think I can go low. 

Profile wise the tire seems to be similar to the 2.3 and not overly rounded but I'm sure it has to be more rounded as the increase in width with no corresponding increase in I.D. It doesn't seem out of place for me anyhow after riding years on Sun Rhyno Lites (ID27.5) and 2.5" tires. Hopefully some better weather soon so I can get a better idea of the best tire pressure to run.

Hey flowrider (and others of course), what was the long-term verdict on the DHF 2.6? Winter is coming and I need some new wet weather tires.

ID of rim?

Ran a 2.6 Maxterra and 2.6 Butcher for a 5-6 months this year, from  early spring 18 to mid-summer (Cypress, Seymour, Fromme, Burke)

On ID 29m rims this is what I found

1) DHF was better at providing more suppleness on drops and compressions- going back to 2.3 DHF made this apparent- I prefer the 2.3 direct feel

2) No discernible difference in rolling resistance

3) DHF never leaked on the sidewalls, unlike the Butcher

Overall I liked it good traction for wet, snowy, rooty trails, allowed me to run crazy low PSI- 16-18
