Marzocchi 66 on a Scream?

G'day folks,
I'm just tossing up what forks to bung on my '03 Scream. I currently have '99 Monster T's, which are/were an awesome fork. However, in their old age I've broken the brake mount off them, so they're currently out of commision- unless I can get a new left slider which seems unlikely down here in the bottom hemisphere.

Anyone running a Marzocchi 66 on their scream? I'm considering getting one, mainly for the light-ish weight and great turning circle. I am a bit concerned about the unbelievable height of the 170mm version, and the 150mm one feeling unbalanced with the 170-ish in the back.

Any perspectives, opinions etc?
I mean I could just get a 888, but I'm interested in trying out one of these long travel single crowns.

BTW, If anyone knows if the left slider (brake side) for an 1999 monster is available new as a spare part in Canadia or USA, I'd love to hear from you. Heck, even a pair of new '02 sliders would be good. Its a damn shame to pension off the monster , I just bought new springs and the internals are mint.

Stay away from the 66 untill next year when they get there own lowers and stuff. Right now they are pretty muh a single crown 888 but crappier. I would suggest to your maybe buying a used 02 or 01 monster T(hopefully someone will ship to you) and slapping your monster back together and keep the rest for parts.

I think there was another thread about this exact thing. It seems like kind of a mismatch to me. The monster seems more fitting for the Scream (or even 888), the 66 seems more fitting for a Chapparal or that type of bike

I think I'd work on that monster if were you, you should be able to get lowers

Totally. I heard 66's also used higher octane Fork Oil, so maintenance is like 27 times more expensive at higher maintenance intervals. Definatly crappier than an 888…

Can you elaborate on this?

How is sharing the 888 lowers a bad thing? Whats the issue with 888 lowers?

I'm also curious as to how they are "crappier". That isn't a word you typically hear in a product review, but you must have logged some serious time on both forks to be able to draw that conclusion. Tell us about it so we can make an informed decision when buying a new fork.

Thanks!

I think he's commenting on the height of the 888 lowers.

Apprently he is 16 haha. About the height of the 66, it isn't really noticeable. I think of it as having a rear 24" (slack feel) but the more you ride it the more you get used to it. 66 on a scream and a proper build can turn out to be a really light and durable setup.

oh hai!

I have an 888r and I used to have a 6 inch boxxer, the new fork did add some rake to the bike, but not anything that was a problem, also the 66 would not be that much, if any, higher than your 99 monster. It is a good fork, I think, I don't see why people are bashing it. Also, reading the reviews on nsmb's main page on the sx trail it says the 66 is a good fork. I would read some more, and maybe try to get out to a shop and test it out.
However, I don't work at a shop and have no idea what higher octane fork oil is. I personally don't think any fork that marzocchi makes for high end freeriding is "crappy", but I might be wrong.

So is Marzochhi using petro to lube their forks now. The forks must burn the oil more efficient because of it.

yes. i heard about a guy who used regular oil in his 66; he dropped diggers [HTML_REMOVED] the fork detonated, blowing a hole in the slider. use only premium in those forks, kids!
