Anyone had some time on any of the 2008 manitou forks (nixon / travis). I know they've had a bad rep for a while now but has anyone got feedback on the recent ones as there has been virtually no press on them?

The 07 and 08 Nixon and Travis are the same products. The only change they made was in the Intrinsic in the Travis, they have gone to an "air backed" IFP (independent floating piston), this will prevent the problem of the small spring that they used to use going askew, which stopped the bottoming control from working. (you can get your 07 upgraded to the new 08 cartridge, they are compatable).

The only other thing Manitou changed, was they are offering a lot less product model wise. They have streamlined their selection and are using proven technology (TPC+, TPC, Intrinsic, Fluid Flow), the only new platform is the Absolute on the Minute and R-Seven, this has a 5 position dial, which allows you to go from a fully open (plush) valving, to a fully locked out fork, offering 4 settings in between. I have ridden an 08 Minute Absolute on a 4x bike at Interiver, on both the track and the DJ's, the settings work killer well and take lots of abuse (I'm 200lbs).

I rode an 07 Nixon Super Intrinsic. Awesome fork, stiff, light 4.5lbs, and Intrinsic Damping works really well, full plush to rock solid in half a turn.

The only thing I missed was travel adjust, at 160mm travel, It was a little tall climbing sometimes, nothing a little body english didn't solve.

Is there a Vancouver in Taiwan?! I had no idea!!

No No No, that's his chosen body style!
Body english is the scary yoga contortions he does when he's riding his bike.

If you've seen connor with his new ultra wide handlebar, then his new position is the "look at mah boobees" pose.

Connor, did you put a super wide bar on your hardtail?? You must look like a gorilla going down the hill now.

I am going with narrower bars on my all mtn bikes, still running 700mm on the bike bike, I don't find I need any more width than that, plus, it isn't comfortable for climbing with the super wide bars, only good for the high speed descents.

Are you talking about the acquisition by the Hayes Group? That was a good thing. Many 2008 forks are designed and built in house in the good ol' USA. Low end OEM type forks were dumped from the line in favor of high end xc/am/dj/dh/fr models. New dampening systems were introduced (Absolute) and older proven designs (TPC) were revamped and re-introduced. And let's not forget the new Dorado. I see a bright future for Manitou.

still happy riding my manitou fork and shock.

sent it to the guys at trident and they made a good fork feel even better. the only problem is that i think they stink palmed my fork and shock.

Being an agoraphobic adrenaline junkie would be pretty convenient, because you could get your rush from just going to the store to get some milk instead of having to jump off a mountain or out of an airplane.

they also call me "balloon"
