I.ve bought a fancy looking gold kmc chain and ive been neglecting lubing my chain befote. What's a good chain lube for the wet months and for the dry months? How often is it recommended to lube it? I usually hose off the bike after a ride ass well. That probably increases how often the chain need to be lubed?

The best chain lube is Prolink.Its half motor oil and half mineral spirits. It soaks into your chain and the mineral spirits dissolve. Leaving a dry chain that does not attract dirt
Rand Momentum is my lube of choice…been using it for a while and love it. Gotta make sure you wipe off in the summer though.
Pro link is excellent. I prefer Rock and Roll Extreme but you can't buy it in Canada. Dumond seems good too. You should relubed the chain if you see rust or hear squeaking. Actually, you want to relube just before the chain squeaks but when is that? After a while you figure out what your relube interval is. Lots of folks will say relube after every ride but that is completely unnecessary. Probably causes more dirt to be carried into the rollers too. Also no matter which lube you use, wipe off the chain really really well after to make sure that there is as little lube on the outside of the chain as possible.
You may read about pro road riders who get their chains lubed followed up with grease on the outside of the chain. That's because they will on the road for six or seven hours, getting rained on, splashing through puddles, getting sun and drying conditions. The water will wash away oils and when things dry up, they are stuck with a squeaky dry chain. They ride over 200 k so they need special treatment and of course a pro mechanic will replace the chain for the next event anyway.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
I have been making my own chain oil for a few years with great success.
I use summer weight chainsaw bar oil and blend it with mineral spirits at about a 30% rate.
use it just like prolink put it on wait a few minutes wipe of excess if there is any and done.
My chains last along time with this:)

I recommend homebrew as well. 3:1 or 4:1 motor oil to mineral spirits. "Cleans and lubricates."

However I use chainsaw oil as it is designed for chains with appropriate additives to make it stick better to chains, at least that is my theory. Also it smells way better than motor for some reason.. Oh and it is tinted red so you see how much you are getting on your chain.
Works for me anyhow I mix it up and give it to my friends it's so cheap…

I'll try that. Better smell is good, red is good. I sometimes use Triflow for lube only applications when I don't need or want cleaning, and it also smells better than homebrew.

I've also been happy with Prolink. Doesn't collect dirt like so many others, and seems to last longest.
Dude Lube sounds interesting and affordable, I guess you can also adjust viscosity. Does it burn clean, meaning last 3 or 4 hours without collecting grime?
