Not only getting flats, but how can you push your bike into corners without folding the tires over?

I recently went out without checking my tires prior to the ride, started riding and noticed my front tire was soft… and I didn't bring a pump. It was probably just under 20psi. I couldn't do anything but ride in a straight line - slowly.

I have dropped my pressures lately, but I am still at about 30psi, sometimes slightly more, sometimes slightly less.

175 lbs semi-nude (oh yeah, I'll bet you like picturing that!)
27 F, 28 R on Specialized Control casings.

Wrong. Always.

seems many fast wcdh pros run sub 30psi. ie, gwinn was quoted @ 25/27 [HTML_REMOVED] minnarr @ 26/28. i run a couple lbs less reliably, but am svelte, and nowhere in the same realm of speediness.

dual ply tires at 28psi are rock hard.

yeah that too noticed my front wheel looked out figured i tweaked the rim , but nope popped the bead of the tire .

i ran 26/28lbs in the rear with a enduro axiom tube and flatted 2 min into my stage at a race . i fixed the flat with a cheap smaller sized tube , pumped the tire to 32/35lb range and rode it for the rest of the race . rode another 100km or so of trail mileage before installing a better quality tube .

i,m building up a new wheel set and may try the procore and give tubeless a try .

I dont think ive ever really ran 30 psi until this bike. Ive always had softer tires and i like it. I cant stand rock hard tires. I feel every bump

Ermegherd!!! Get a road bike.

Traction is overrated. Run loose and hard, scaring yourself is fun.

…and a properly inflated trail tire (yes we do run trailbikes, even at what you think is race pace) hooks up way better when0inflated properly and ridden properly.

When its a choice of being able to attack the trail or to just be holding on, ill take lower pressures. The only disadvantage to me is slower rolling resistance

Lower pressure is often faster rolling

/\I've been thinking this the whole way through this thread?

I've run dual ply for eons. 24/26 always (DHF, 185lbs riding naked and unfed).

Lately I've had a couple of different lightish sidewall setups and, I feel ya, the pressure sensitivity is pretty frustrating especially for someone used to dual ply.

I thought 26/28 was good. But it seems like 25.99999 and the tire's close to rolling at the extremes and worse, there's the dreaded occasional rim pinging- which gives my wallet heart palpitations. 26 + 1 milligram= solid rubber forklift tire.

My solution is going to be picking up a very sensitive pressure gauge. Then maybe flushing the OCD meds and going off to live in a cave next to the trail for a while.

after a few seasons of mid-weight tires, I put a 2ply DHF 2.5 on the back of my reign for the EWS, set it up tubeless with a bit extra fluid, and it felt great. I'm so sick of puncturing casings after a week of riding, or having to run too much pressure to not squirm. The DH casing just felt so good again, I'd forgotten how nice it feels to ride, seriously considering one for the front too.

I will update my comments as I recently got a set of Super Gravity Casing Hans Dampf in 2.35. Those are 30PSI were stones. I dropped the pressure to 25PSI and the front to 22PSI. Rare that I would run a tire that low. But, running them any firmer on the HT in the WBP was bone jarring.

That being said, I was running over 30PSI on a 2.5 DHR2 dual ply and rolled the beed off the rim. Go figure…

It all depends on the volume, casing and condition I suppose.

As an aside, anyone using one of those digital gauges from ToPeak?

In the interest of increased traction and comfort in my hardtail it is starting to sound like a no brainer to go from control casing to grid casing with my specialized tires and run low 20s psi. Even at the expense of increased rolling mass.

Wrong. Always.
