I know DH bikes aren't meant to be cheap but I'm looking for best bang for buck that wont disintegrate if I ride Whistler on the weekly next year. Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks!

when the 05 aline's were 2500, you couldnt go wrong with that.
send them a pic of you riding their DH RACE bike off the roof of Rochester School…and ask if the crack is really a manufacturing defect.

whistler's rental fleet
i know Mt. Washington is selling used rental norcos:
'05 a-lines for $1200 and '06 atomiks for $1500…some bikes arent 'too' beat up..
bikes:
04 norco 4by w/ 05 sherman firefly :(
07 KTM 144sx :)
I like to throw up prior to dropping into a-line. I find it makes jumping easier.
I have an 05 A-line have love it. The thing is bullet-proof and requires little maintenance.
It's probably the best bang-for-your-buck Whistler-style DH bike.
You don't need to change a thing on it except for the Truvativ guide. Replace that with an e13 or similar.
You can find them now for $1,200-2,000 depending on the condition.
Good luck !
… good.. bad.. I'm the guy with the gun.
Take a look at the whistler rental fleet (Kona Stinkys) - OK so they take a hammering but they are very well maintained and parts are regularly replaced on them. The ones I've seen have 888 RC2's (good forks), Fox DHX rear shocks, sram X0 rear mechs, hayes brakes, raceface diabolus headsets, etc - all good, reliable, performance parts. The bikes are priced at $1800 and the components alone are worth that IMO. Its not the nicest frame in the world but its not at all bad either, and you will have a good component package that can be swapped onto a nicer frame if and when you want.
get a kona stinky the 06 is really nice imo
I'd find the best 06 A-line or Stinky and pick. You won't loose between either.

Pick half a dozen bikes you like and buy the best used deal on the bike in the best condition.
Wow, thanks for all the info - I'm a big fan of Norco's. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with my buddy on his Giant next year!
Peace
