Petzl Tikka FTW. Killer run time, light weight, cheap, helmet mounted.

Me and Shaker666 hit Fromme for a snowing night ride down Pipeline and the lights I brought shit the bed and shorted out 5 min into the ride. So I slapped on my Tikka and flowed Pipeline. Killer ride and the Tikka really impressed me.

In snow, you can get away with a much lower output light. The Tikka would be an awesome emergency backup, but with a max output of 50lumen, it's not bright enough for regular riding without the albedo of snow.

FYP. They are very good for slow speeds and as a back up. By slow speeds I mean hiking. I have one for walking the dogs and finding their poop or toys they forget. Snow is great for reflecting light, dark wet soil is really crappy for that.

For dedicated bike lights, you just can't beat Magicshine for 700 lumens, unless you go for 700 lumen flashlights like me. I prefer single systems without wires, and they're cheaper as well, $20 for 700 lumens, $40 bucks for 1400.

What type of flashlights do you use Mr. Bubbles?
I just picked up a cheapie LED flashlight (270 lumens claimed) as a back-up for my dedicated bike kit and was rather surprised by the amount of light it throws out for $10. I was almost contemplating seeing what 3 or 4 of them would look like across my bars. The flashlight uses 3 AAA cells, and I'm curious to see how much burn time I get out of my NiMH batteries. I suspect it may be more than my higher-priced L-ion bike light.

These. Ignore the "800" lumen claim, with the optic and driver loss, it's 700 at most.

It uses rechargeable 18650 laptop protected Li-ion cells (the same cells you'll find in Magicshines, except wired in 2 series 2 parallel and encased).

I don't use NiMH anymore. One 18650 cell equals 3 AA Nimh. 18650s are cheaper ($8 for 2), has less memory function, and lighter.

What you want is either a Cree MC-E based LEDs or Seoul P7.

Its no race light by any means, but like I said for that day in the snow it worked great and I hit pipe line reg speed.

Yes, reflector mounts and Planet Bike blinker mounts. Available at your LBS.

You don't have to make it. You can buy off the shelf flashlight mounts for $3 at DX, but I like mine better.

I made a whole bunch for different handlebar size.

Nope, not a good deal. Niterider doesn't have HIDs in their latest lineup for a reason. None of the serious light makers do HIDs anymore.

My buddy mentioned during tonight's night ride that he thought his eyes were getting worse. I asked if he noticed it during the day time and he said no. Not 10 minutes before that, during the ride I was thinking to myself about how strained my eyes feel after a decent ride. We ride with pretty cheap lights that probably put out around 200-300 lumens (from what I have seen online). Hmmmm, I think the problem isnt our eyes, its the lights!

I just ordered the 2300 lumen set (1400+900 magic shine) from geoman gear 5 minutes ago. $230 shipped sounded reasonable at this point.

Im not gonna tell my buddy about the purchase until they arrive :lol: it'll be awesome
