The 1400 would be a heavy head mount, and probably not as good as the 900, since the main spot light isn't as bright. I've got a 900 for the helmet and a 1400 for the bar, and it's pretty amazing how bright it is.

Dang no, I assumed (wrongly) the full set came with the helmet mount. Guess I could order the 900w. helmet mount and try that…

For now, I think I'll ghetto strap the 1400 to my helmet and try it out for weight/attachment.

You might want to check your LBS or mec and see what they have for mounts for other brands. It shouldn't be too hard to graft something together that will work well. Some of the mounting kits for other brands are dirt cheap. I'd avoid zap-ties- I find they have little give, and it's better to have something with a some amount of elasticity to prevent loosening up or rattling around.

the velcro with the helmet mount is pretty mean on the padding inside a helmet, will slowly rip it apart over time, worth getting a simple tie down strap from mec for $2. and toss the velcro…

I just tried a new thing for my lights… well new to me but old to others I'm sure. I just hadn't read about it much so thought it might be worth sharing. My batteries aren't completely waterproof, and I didn't want to use a bulky waterproof case. So I bought some PlastiDip, and did a triple coating on each battery. I haven't had them out in the rain yet, but the coating looks good and bombproof now. Now I can use the original battery case and mountaing strap without worrying about water ingress.

You can get the plasti dip at home hardware, about $20 for a can in various colours. The can fits a small cylindrical battery (eg Magic shine) just fine, but you might need a bigger can or to use a different dipping container if you have a larger or different shaped battery. You may also need to pour some of the dip out into another container, as it will overflow as you dip your battery in.

It's super messy, and lets off a horrible toxic plume, so you'll want to do it outside and have some air circulation. I did a triple coat on 3 batteries and still had some dip left over. It's a bit more expensive than just using electrical tape, but it has other uses too, and gives a very smooth finish.

i also plastidipped my 3x magicshine batteries. still running great after a year.

How many/what set-up are people running with the magicshines? Seems for most the single 900 is not enough?
