Nice. You could pack spare batteries with it.

One year report on the magic shines. (808 and 872)

They worked flawlessly. I used these lights rain or shine, and the 808 for night snowboarding a few times. For a cheap solution they have been good. Much better than some of the low end stuff ive seen coming out.

One thing to note, is much of the cost of investment is battery quality. Although I never had any issues, I think my 4 led 872 has its battery on its last legs.

I highly recommend handlebar and helmet combo.

I upgraded my helmet light to a Gemini duo 1400 since they were on sale. Stoked on that because the output is close to double the 808. (measured lumens of 1100 vs 650)

I wanted the lupine piko with gopro mount but couldn't justify the cost.

Over here the Piko would be about twice the cost of a Magic shine, and I have not yet bought neither. I am currently intrigued by a Sigma Power LEd lamp, and came across the piko.

Still, I think I have the money at the end of January, beginning of February and guess I just have to wait and make a decision then. I do not want any possible guarantee hassle, tho. So a local manufacturer would be more than logical I guess.

My 2 magic-shines died after a year. My new set-up is a solarstorm x2 for the helmet since I can use my old magic-shine batteries with it. Cost $20 for light head and crappy battery. for the bars I got a Baja designs Double Stryk. This light set is bright ,fully waterproof to 33ft and has lifetime warranty. It wasn't cheap, but I wanted at least one good reliable light on the trails.

A OK Battery on Ebay (Hung_Lee). They use high grade Panasonics and relatively cheap. I have a 2 cell coming and it was $30 shipped.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered one for about $40.

Solarstorm arrived today. Merry Xmas to me. Took it apart and appears everything is there. Charging the battery and will test longevity.

Well ran the light on the garage floor on low for 3.5 hours and still 2/3 led's on. Not at all hot to the touch. Looks like I won this round of cheap Chinese light roulette.

How many LEDs on the light, and what's the battery pack configuration?

I got a GC to MEC and am thinking of picking up some lights. Anyone running the Cygolite Expilion 800?

Would that work as a standalone unit or will I be wanting more light?

There's no one else in the room. ;)

My neighbour has that setup. Very nice light that weighs very little, and the runtime you got on your test is really good. Smokin' deal.

I ordered 2 Solarstorm X2 from lightmalls. They got here after 3 weeks and were already charged and ready to go when I opened the box. Stoked. I went for an hour ride and they were pretty awesome.

They weren't completely out of juice, but I thought I would charge them fully for the next ride. Plugged the batteries into the chargers and plugged the chargers into the wall. The LED on the chargers was green the whole time. Not red like others have said. I left them plugged in for about an hour. One battery charged up (3 green LEDs on the light when I plugged the light back into the battery). But the other battery appears to have lost its charge entirely. After removing the charger from the wall the battery doesn't even power the green LED on the charger. Has anyone else seen this? I'm hoping to try with a friends charger and see what happens, but I'm worried that the battery might be toast somehow.

What's the protocol for charging these batteries? Should they be run down completely before charging?

You don't want to completely discharge the battery.
