Thinking of getting something for when you don't really know what to wear, have two old heavier rain jackets that are fine if it's really raining but not breathable at all and still pretty bulky rolled up.
Thinking of getting one of those ultra light roadie style ones that will just fit in a pocket, which one is good?
Race face nano, or one of many from real roadie brands; castelli velo bontrager or whatever else there is.
My friend told me to get a RF Nano, and I didn't think I'd use it but I got one anyway since he was adamant that I would. I have now used it more than any other jacket I've owned for cycling. Not sure how it would go if it was particularly wet, but it's really hard to beat for taking the chill out when the wind is blowing and it's raining lightly.
Bontrager has some decent jackets mine is a older light weight waterproof deal , works well with layers in the colder months

I have had the Arcteryx Squamish Hoodie for about 2 years and it's probably my single most used article of clothing. I wear it for trail riding, commuting and as an everyday windbreaker. It weighs virtually nothing, feels like tissue paper, but I have crashed 2-3 times wearing it and it still looks like new. It won't keep you dry in a full soaker situation, but sheds light rain well. Can't recommend this jacket enough.

For Castelli, you'd be looking at the Tempesta jacket (eVent). If it's moderate rain, don't overlook the Gabba long or short sleeve. It's not meant for downpours, but water beads right off. I got one recently and it is easy to see how it quickly became a standard garment in the pro peloton.

This thing has been bombproof (going on 5+ years now), keeps me dry, super lightweight, and is breathable as Gore Paclite. That being said, nothing is breathable for the amount I sweat when riding, but a thin long-sleeve merino layer underneath, and I don't feel the moisture.

I have dakine caliber jacket.
Its very light , waterproof, stretch breathable membrane. And a hood that fits OVer your helmet.
Fantastic winter shit hits the fan jacket. And very packable

It's amazing. Great fit, very comfy and amazingly water proof. I was out for two hours on Saturday in the deluge and nothing got in.

Thanks Cam! I was just saying to myself "Arc'teryx is so mainstream and even Squamish doesn't seem as exclusive or expensive as when it came out. If only there was another option…"

Second the squamish windshirt for most cold, windy, non saturating conditions.
Still searching for the ultimate breathable rain jacket for riding. But feel doomed to be wet with sweat or rain.

That Neoshell fabric is very good. I have last years Acre jacket much like the Mission one posted. Same company. Not super in the jersey pocket pack able though. I got a 7mesh wind jacket which is very compressible and the fit is good. Very breathable and the fit isn't roadie tight. Because I'm not roadie emaciated.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

The OR helium is Shield+ which is 20,000g breathability. Much, much better than the old Shield DS
