I am in the market for new knee protection. Light Flexible. D30 foam looks interesting what are your real world results with this material?
Light Flexible Knee Protection
I love my Astars Paragon pads, they stay in place when riding and when crashing, and mine are the original version that they have upgrades since.
They aren't D30, but they are CE certified, which is the European standard that you need to meet to say that the pads do protect you.
I really like my Dakine Slayer pads. I find them comfortable enough that 5 minutes into a ride I forget they are there. I haven't had any really big wrecks since I got them, but they've adequately prevented scrapes and bruises after a few unexpected dismounts.
I got the first gen Poc Vpd Knee in 2015 and have had quite a few crashes in them. The material which is similar to d30 I think works amazingly well.
Given the new pads I think you are on the safe side. Definitely odd at first since the new pads have a different feel to them than the old ones from years ago.
Which ones do you think of trying?

I've been using ixs flow pads for a couple years, wear them all the time and don't really think about them so that's a good sign I think.
I wanted to try the Dainese Trail Skin 2s but those appear to be vapourware...
Thanks for all the feed back.
I tried everything in Stock at all the shops in little old Nanaimo and I settled on the all black G-Form knee pads in XXL to fit over my hamhock calves. I am doing the Hammer Fest Enduro Sunday so I will see how they fork out.
Do any shops carry Sweet Protection locally? (S2S area)
I notice no sizing or fit chart on their site so it's something that I'll need to try on first.
Pete I see you have a pair of their knees, what's the scoop on them?
I've got a pair of Ion K-pact pads that are great - so I'd recommend the lighter version (K-lite)?
I'll add another nod of support for my POC VPD air. Very comfortable to pedal in, my only qualm is that they are less flexible in the cold and I suspect they forgo some of their non-newtonian properties in the winter.
Any love for the RF Indy's or the RF Ambush?

I tried them on, but they just did not feel right and comfy.
Guess it is similar to helmets.

Me too. I put them on at the start of the ride and take them off when I'm done, other than that I don't really notice them.

The Indy's were not too durable. I found the stitching came apart where the neoprene met the padding. This happened with two of my friends as well.
I've had succuss with the i7dp pads. Very comfortable. Cove has them
I have the Dainese trail skins, the first ones. The second ones look like they address my only grip with the originals in that they are more formed to the knee cap. They stay in place. have side protection, move well and aren't irritating, but the fit it a little awkward as they are not cupped enough to fit nicely on the knee. I would recommend them and figure the new ones are the way to go if you can find them. I live in the North so I pretty much have to buy online anyway since local options are extremely limited.
