im in process of potentially picking up a 2009 knolly v-tach, has anyone used them?
any pro/con? what size did you use?/your height?
knolly v-tach
I've got one that I'll be selling in a week or so when I'm back from my trip. I'm 6'4" and I ride a large, but only because they don't make an XL. It's a bit tight for me, especially with a direct mount stem (50mm) but its a fun bike because you can set it up easily for whatever type of riding you want to do with the head angle cam and the adjustable chainstays. Heavy as shit but I'm pretty sure you could throw it off a cliff and the frame would laugh off the impact. It pedals really well for its weight, although I have trouble with it because of the tight cockpit.
Being cheap is OK. Being a clueless sanctimonious condescending douchebag is just Vlad's MO.
what adjustments are available in terms of headtube angle and suspension

There's a cam in the linkage that allows you to change the head angle (and through that the BB height) by +/- 1 degree, and the chainstays can be changed by about 20mm. Google reviews on the bike, should give you more detail. What do you want to do with it?

everything, including hiking
also, hate to make another thread, how do you change the main sprocket on the hammerschmidt? does it accept any granny ring?
You can't.
The H.S. came with 2 sizes of chainrings. I can't remember exactly… 22 and 26? Google it, lots of info on it.
To swap, you have to pull the drive side crank arm off…
Sounds like you are attempting to build the heaviest bike possible? V-tach and hammershit….yikes.

Comes with. Dont care about weight though
As far as operation, I love the HS, but I'm too much of a weight wiener to keep it on my trail bike.
Works awesome on my 2x1 hardtail commuter though.
I had two V-Tachs. Loved'em. Tough as hell. The ultimate Cypress shuttle bike - quite a contrast from modern low-slung racebikes. I love my Demo but I have plenty of opportunity to miss the V-Tach. Surprisingly good climber despite the weight. It can run a granny with an E-Type front derailleur.
There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
Check the bearings on your v-tach. Knolly or not they do fail after time.
