Joplin seatpost

Does anyone have any saddle time on a Crank Brothers Joplin post. It's something I'm considering for my Reign next season but I really don't want to get into a maintenance headache.

I know they work, but do they last?

Thanks!

Both posts I've tried (Joplin, Joplin R) had too much slop for me to find acceptable. They're super slick, but the slop made it feel like all of the pivots on my frame were loose. I'd prefer a 4" drop instead of a 3" too, but that's a preference thing.

Being short I find a three inch drop is more than enough. I don't notice the side to side saddle wag at all. I did notice when it blew in internal seal and it took about three or four weeks to get repaired. There are no instructions on how to dismantle the thing and I did not want to risk pulling it apart to find that it required a special tool or something to reassemble. It was fixed no problem but I prefer the warranty that does not get used.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

9 months of use, and no problems so far. Keep a boot on it to keep the stanchions clean. There is some slop, and has gotten a little worse than when new. 3" drop is not enough for me, and I am 5-10". I am still raising it physically via QR another 1" for long climbs. Will upgrade to 4" when it breaks or can sell it. You can use the Maverick manuals for service. Crank Bros has good warranty service in general IMO.

Haven't tried the Joplin but I've been using a GravityDropper for a few years and really like it… I also just ordered the new Specialized Command Post. Its mechanically actuated which I like and looks pretty hot…

I found the play in the joplin very annoying.

I've heard good things about the Specialized adjustable seat post. Not sure if you can buy them after market though.

The rase adjustable seat post can give you 9 inches of adjustability! 400g though…

They'll also be coming out with a 6 inch version.

The command post is looking pretty sweet right now, but the 30.9 only sizing is a bit annoying.

Take a look on this one: Kind Shock i900. It's quite popular among Euros and doesn't have the annyoing play
I don't know if they are available in North America, in Europe they are much cheaper than the joplin. In fact die KS costs about 128 Euros =~ 220 CAD

Their webiste is down at the moment, but here's a pic:

According to the local Spec. dealer in Victoria (OBB) they are in stock for after market sales in Canada.

Any idea of weights for most of the posts? I heard the Joplin is in the 500g range.

I have not found the "slop" to be of any issue when riding the bike. And in my experience the Joplin R is much more useful than the Joplin L. Using the remove lever allows a quick adjustment, just like shifting gears.
One thing that I found you have to watch out for is landing hard on the back of the saddle and shifting the seat angle. follow the install instructions before you use it.

I may be testing a KS Suspension seatpost soon which operates similar to a Joplin but without the "slop" by using bearings in machined grooves, and is offered in a 5" and 3" drop. I'll try to post something if all goes through.

I have been keeping an eye on all the different adjustable posts for a while…it's really good to see more companies jumping into the fray…I was sold on a joplin…but the Specialized Command Post and the KS one look really good too…wonder if you can pick up one of them over here…hmmm….
