Joke?

Why are these brakes so damn funny? Hayes or Avid have a "Mud Cutter" rotor… I'd love to hear some concrete reasons as to why one would laugh at someone else for running Red Raven stuff. Apparently Steve Peat runs their stuff. Would you laugh at him?

I just want to know folks, I'm not defending them, as I have never used their gear.

wouldn't any wavy type rotor have the same convection cooling effect as seen in the first clip?

I like my bike! its good.

Since when does the average rotor look like a wagon wheel?

Right ok i will put my point of view across yes its only a rotor however everyone ive spoke to (4 people) who has used them says there is noticable diffrents in performance.

Same reason why I would point and laugh at someone who drops thousands of dollars to save a little weight. Upgrading gear is definitely a fun part of the sport but I think that these sorts of costs are pretty ludicrous for the performance increase. In road (and xc too I guess), the general formula is that if you're paying $1/gram of weight savings you're doing ok, but if you pay more than a buck per gram then you're wasting money.

They are probably paying Steve Peat big bucks to ride their gear, so I would definitely not point and laugh at him. If he bought the stuff with his own pocket money then yes I would.

edit: I'm not even mocking the product, just the price and the animations.

Once I can ride and test them out, I'll post up a review. Maybe I can get someone to do it for me (maybe Matt ;)).

The animations are a little cheesy, but aside from that they are supposed to be very good rotors, espcially for weight savings and heat disapation. 9 inches can't hurt for riding the park and racing DH. I'm looking forward to trying a set.

Come on, who wouldn't want the "largest rotor on the market today at a whooping 230mm(9")".

There actually an article on these things and the guy who started the company in the magazine "Dirt", the one with Aaron Chase on the front. Check that out as well.

okay. the wave pattern i can see as it increases the surface area of the rotor.

the convection currents and mud shedding design are a load of you know what in my opinion

"It also provides a modern super trick concept look that is becoming increasingly fashionable on race bikes today."

that about sums it up. they're fashion accessories, nothing more.
