Jerseys 'n Stank

Seems like a silly question, I guess…

But:

Do jersey's get smellier over time? I wash my jerseys after every ride but my current fave starts to reek about 10 minutes into the ride.

It's a Dakine jersey, and I think advertised an anti-microbial treatment of some kind when I first got it. It doesn't seem to work anymore if it did…

It's a great item. It's got 3/4 sleeves, goggle wipe (very handy for 4-eyed goons like myself), and has held up well for the last 3 years or so, but now is just getting funky.

I've got merino stuff for camping which is fantastic, but is a little delicate for crashing in, and exposure to velcro.

Follow up question:

Any non-dentist, non-hipster-cycle club brands of merino mtb jerseys? Not a fan of the zippered look, and I don't need pockets.

A….merino "enduro" jersey, if you will…

Mirazyme works, soaking in vinegar might

for recreating forget about merino jerseys cuz they don't hold up, just wear merino t-shirts which are also cheaper

I hadn't heard of Mirazyme. I'll check it out.

Thanks!

For all the stinky gear - especially pads - I put half a cup of vinegar in the washing machine plus normal detergent. Kills the stink really well.

Here the more complex approach:

A little like this classic Frank Zappa song. One could redo some lyrics. Stink shirt.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9FBQ1O5F8k

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

I hear storing your gear in a Rubermaid through the Winter works wonders….

it seems like the anti-microbial silver ion type stuff absorbs and locks in the stink more. And someone on the internet agrees:

Another person on the internet agrees. It's nasty stuff. Only wear this kind of material in the cold. Really prefer a cotton shirt in the summer.

Back in the Roach pad days, one of my workers gave me a hot tip on how to get the stink out of hockey gear; wash it in your bathtub using Mr. Clean (yes, the stuff you use to wash your floors).

Tried it and have been doing that since.

I don't have any jerseys that stink like that, but if I did I wouldn't hesitate to hand wash clothing in it.

Hanging clothes outside in the sun helps too, likely the UV killing off the bacteria in the material.

We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

my favorite riding shirt is made from bamboo. no stink, tempurature regulating, 3/4 length sleeves, comfy. bamboo clothes are apperantly not very ecologically friendly but neither are most jersey materials anyways so who cares.
I can't recall the brand name and the label is long gone as I bought it from one of the hippie shops here but you might find some something on the old google machine.

Back when I played hockey we used Esporta. It was the only solution.
