hydration pack bladder stank

I bought a new Dakine hydration pack a few weeks ago and the bladder has been all but unusable because it tastes like plastic. The first sip I took burnt my mounth with a chemically/plastic taste and it's barely gotten better despite my best cleaning efforts.

I've tried soaking it in baking soda/water, vinegar/water and scrubbed it out with soap but it's still just terrible.

What are some other tricks to get rid of the taste?

Dont buy a new bladder. Bought a camelbak bladder for my pack a few months back and same thing. The plastic taste either goes away or you get used to it.

Why slag free swag?

ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

I use denture cleaning tabs on mine each season. Drop in 3 or 4, leave it overnight, then scrub it out good. Don't forget to work the hose-cleaner while you're at it. Leaves a subtle minty taste behind.

My "Source" brand bladder has no plastic taste. MEC sells these. My Camelback brand bladder's plastic taste has never gone away. I put a slice of lemon or lime in to cover up the taste.

Old school trick.

This

I bought a new camelback and put my Source bladder in it. For some reason, its been the best one I've ever used. Doesn't go mouldy either.

I think bladders go mouldy cuz people leave them almost empty with just a little bit of water [HTML_REMOVED] air

I find if I store my hydration pack bladder full of water and if I try to get out all the air after I use it doesn't go moldy

I had the same deal with my dakine bag. Ran it with a few squirts of mio in it seemed to help, it went away after awhile. It sucks that the bag makes you want to vomit when it's brand new.

Maybe it's me but I taste no plastic in either my Camelbak or Osprey bladders. I never put anything but water in them and rinse them with plain water before I ride. Last night I grabbed my spare small Osprey which I hadn't used in over a year. Rinsed with tap water and filled. No taste.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
