Should it take a shop 4 to 5 hours to replace the bushings on a VP-Free? 5 hours seems like a while for 8 little bushings, but then again i'm no expert.

thanks.

Did you ever think maybe, just maybe they have other bikes ahead of yours?

I love how people assume their bike takes priority over everyone elses.

Replacing bearings will only take you ~ 2 hours and $40 to do it yourself the first time. It just doesn't make sense to pay a shop to do this for you.

A complete over haul bike course will cost you about $110, where you learn, tune your bike and get free use of their tools. I would look into a course like this if you don't like waiting.

Did you ever think he was referring to a quote for labour?

Speaking of assuming…..

I dont know what shop you go to, but when a shop gives you a time quote it usually takes into account those that are ahead of you

Shops do not quote you and charge you for the time your bike spends in the cue waiting to be serviced.

If shops quoted and charged you for the time your bike spent in the shop from the point of you dropping it off to picking it up, you would be getting charged for dozens of hours.

Quotations are done for labour (time spent wrenching on the bike) and the parts required to fix it. They don't charge you while your bike waits to get looked at.

And for what its worth…he was talking about a labour quote to change bearings in his VP Free….Not how long it would take to get to his bike based on the workload of the shop.

Stop jumping the 719 road-gap and they may last a little longer :dizzy:

Changing bearing on a vp-free takes a ridiculas amount of time. not five hours but easily a couple of hours. Its by no means an easy job. Santa Cruz makes a tool to do it but it doesn't work very well.

The tool is fine. I do my Blur or VPFree in around an hour. Maybe less. You do need to drink a few pops though.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

actually they can't work on my bike until tomorrow morning and i brought it in yesterday. they say that it is a pretty meticulous job taking each bearing out, and that last vpfree was $180 in labour:greedy:

Sometimes it's better to bring it to a shop with a fixed $$$ for each job.

Have fun on the new bearings.

perhaps you ask other shops how much it would cost to replace the bearings on your ride, It sounds a little steep for them. But what do I know; I've only had a dullie for one season.
