Usual dhf up front but just changed to goodyear Newton on the rear. 2.6 (measures 2.5 on a i30 rim) with dh casing. Only had a few runs in the dry so far but so far I'm impressed. Had a dhr before and thought it was time to try something different, great grip on rock and woodwork. I'm hoping it won't wear out as quick as the maxxis. A bit heavy but I can live with that.
Magic Mary (Soft compound / Addix) 2.6 front, Bontrager Team Issue SE4 on the rear. Rolling on 27.5 Flow MK3 rims. This is my 'fall/winter' setup for now. In the summer I was running a 2.35 MM Soft front, 2.35 NN rear Speedgrip.
Does anyone have an opinion on the Bontrager SE5 2.6 for 29er? I running at MM 2.35 Addix Soft in the front and want to try something more meaty for the winter. I have a 30mm id rim. I can only find the Butcher and the Bontrager in 2.6. No experience on either.
Well, well. I just checked and Schwalbe is offering a 2.6 MM Addix soft for the 29er. Maybe I should just stick with what works, only bigger.
Maxxis are doing a 2.6 dhf for 2019, it's in their catalogue but don't think it's hit the lbs yet.

just built up a 35mm front wheel w/ the same 2.6 MM. aggressive so far. looking forward to seeing how it handles the sloppy season (whenever it finally arrives).

the 2.35 MM is a dam nice tire eh. about 100g lighter and a bit narrower than the DHF 2.5. does your fork have enough clearance for a 2.6 tire? that's a lot of rubber in the wagon wheel format! i have the MM 2.6 on my small wheeled bike. love it. would replace with same, but i have an SE5 2.6 that was free waiting in the wings. the MM is hard wearing and i'm riding less now so it will be a while.
Love the MM 2.35. Looking at a 2.6 option is definitely more of a want than a need. You raise a good question about fork clearance. I run a non-boost Pike.
Maybe not quite relevant, but my 2.6” Butcher fits a non-boost 9er Pike no problem.
I hear rumours that the Big S exaggerates the width of its tires. A buddy of mine has those 2.6 butchers and they looked very similar to a Minion 2.5. I may have to try the Bontrager SE5 and take advantage of the return policy if it doesn't fit.
Yeah they’re not the biggest 2.6 out there, that’s for sure. Vs a 2.35 Minion they look only a little bigger overall, but the size is skewed towards the casing more than the tread, if that makes any sense. Either way, I like the tire and it’s increased volume is nice vs a 2.35 Minion. A 2.6” or 2.5” Minion would be too much tread for me.

I strayed from Maxxis a couple of years ago - lured by a cheap online deal. And regretted it instantly. Maxxis all the time. Though I recently switched to DD casing and love it.
Schwalbe dont do Pacestar/Trailstar/Verstar anymore. They have a new compound called 'Addix' and it comes in Speed/SpeedGrip/Soft/UltraSoft as denoted by the color of the strip. I run a Soft Magic Mary on the front and a SpeedGrip Nobby Nic on the rear in the summer months and they are great. Their website compares all the durometers to the old Pacestar compound. Sorry this doesnt actually answer your question about Spesh tires.

I bought a MM Addix orange awhile back and was so disappoint when it inflated smaller than my old Trailstar MM. It's too draggy to put on rear w/E13trs on front.
So digging around in tire stash looking for 26" 1.50 road tires and the Presta valve tubes that match them to set up wifes bike on wind trainer, I found a lightly used Butcher/Purgatory combo. Thinking Purg surely better for wet/cold than Pacestar, eh?
