I just laced up a new wheel with a rear hope 4 hub for the first time and I need to take the endcap off to screw my cassette on.

HOW THE FRESH HELL do you take these things off.  I swear I'm going to need to cut into this fucking thing to get it off.

There's a logical solution.

It will just pull off.  Unfortunately you may have to use some channel locks or pliers " rap them in rubber" but it will come.

They're notoriously tight the first time. Usually fine after that.

I gave up and got the vice-locks out.  Put some grease in there and hope to hell I'll be able to get it off when I need to service it/replace the cassette.

Holy hell, why in the hell do I need vice grips to get these off.

Broke enough spokes to have to do this shit and regardless of the egregious amount of lube I chucked in there I could not find purchase to get them off without vice-grips.

Shoulda bought the i9's and waited the 38 weeks.

(you probably did) did you try just inserting the tip of the axle in the endcap and prying it out that way? I have 6 Hope hubs and haven't needed anything as rough trade as vise grips yet.

Looking for a pun about vice, a strong grip, and remembering to try inserting the appropriate shaft but I'm shooting blanks.

Then I guess one of us was lucky, relatively speaking.

Great idea. Will do that next time I'm struggling with them.
