I had the same bike but mine was in pearl with purple speckles.  I still have it but need work to get rolling again.  Bought it after spending a summer working a fishing cannery in AK.  2nd bike was a Marin Bear Country(I think?).

It would have been some sort of Norco rigid MTB back in 1988 or so. It was red and we were calling them ATBs I think at the time. It was fairly shit as I recall and made a better urban commuter than a trail bike due to fragile components.  Photo above is my 3rd MTB and the first decent one I owned....setup for bikepacking in like 1990 when bikepacking wasn't a thing. ;-)

When I was 14/15- Bright Orange Norco bigfoot.

18 yrs saved up all summer Raw chromo Off road toad. Still wish I had that one....

Wanted to give some rep for a great thread.

83 Stumpjumper Sport. They cost about $800 then. So many bikes since then.

Something fun to talk about. My social life is solo gravel rides and the family at home. Things could be worse but talking to the wife about the shitty dia-compe levers on my bikes back then that made your hands hurt like a bitch falls on deaf ears. How about the toe clip baskets? Took forever to flip em over and get going.....

Friend in 1991 bought a Ritchey comp. Think he paid 1500 for it. 

Not much has changed

1996 Kona Kilauea bought from Russ Hay's bike shop in Victoria, BC. 2 of my roommates worked in bikes shops during university, one at Russ Hay's and the other at Ryders Cycles.

The bike came with a rigid fork, but I bought my buddies Pro-flex Girvin fork off him as he was probably getting one of those new Marzocchi Bombers. With its elastomer suspension and probably 2 inches of travel, I thought it was the shit back then.

My first mountain bike was a used early 90s Raleigh, can't remember the exact model but from a google image search I'm pretty sure it was a Lizard like the one below.

First bike - 1997 GT Karakoram. Spent all summer mowing lawns and all winter shoveling roofs and driveways to buy it. This isn't mine, but it's the same bike / year. Had this bike until I snagged the rear mech and ripped the dropout off. Not the hanger, but the back half of the dropout lol.

Second bike - All the parts from the GT swapped on to a 1998 / 1999 Norco Torrent. Back when it was Ritchey steel and a real sweet ride. I loved that bike. Was stolen from the bike room in an apt in Calgary. Couldn't find a pic of that years torrent.

Yes, I remember toe clips. WTF were we thinking.

My first "real" MTB was a Mongoose Rockadile I bought with paper route money in the early 90s. All chromoly frame and a terrible RST for of some sort that was more of a novelty item than a functional one.  I was about 13 and Tomac was my idol. So much stoke and good times on that thing.
