Helmet Camera Comparisons

Here is a call out to those of you that have helmet cameras.

Please post up some videos or links to your videos stating what camera you are using. I am not looking for fancy editing or cool music so please don't go fancy on this.

I'd like to use this thread as a picture quality comparison thread.

State the camera model (year) and if you know the settings please let us know the video settings that were uploaded (ie 640x480 30fps etc.) Open an account with VIMEO and post the links from there so that we all have an even playing field.

Post up some videos of you riding trails so that others can look at the picture quality of the videos.

If possible do a shuttle run of Seymour (or pedal up like I did). Ride the following trails and post them up if you can:

Corkscrew, Salvation, Pingu, Pangor, Slash, Empress

great idea, I want a camera but don't feel like dropping $200+ on a gopro.
A cheaper alternative would be great

vio pov1 year 2008, helmet cam parts are recorded with the highest settings possible, 720x480. trail is the new x-line in saalbach-hinterglemm, austria. other parts cover the 2008 adidas slopestyle (filmed in hd, not with the vio)

You don't get GoPro's for high quality video. They are however, IMO, good value for money. Remarkable array of mounting options too

have no Shore videos. Sharon is working on one. Uploaded 640x480 25fps. Mpeg4 codec

I really like the chase view. Looks really cool, different from what I'm used to seeing with bike videos.

Being cheap is OK. Being a clueless sanctimonious condescending douchebag is just Vlad's MO.

Lee how do make sure the GoPro is pointed where you want it if there's no screen or pointers?

A lot of experimentation Dave. There's also very different setups for freeride and downhill situations where our terrain is so steep. A lot of other reviews have looked at the GoPro but in much more mellow terrain. I'm trying to work on an article which talks about mounting options for FR/DH trails and going to try to give pictures which show the angles for pointing the camera to try to help take the guesswork out of it.

Sorry for thread derail Dean - back to regularly scheduled discussion as I'm also curious about this

DaveM Yeah you really just have to get out there and try. I spend a long time riding up and down the block then running inside throwing it on the Tv over and over only to find the angle was not right for the trails. I have mine pretty dialed on my permanent helmet mount I angle till I can just barley still get the camera then just a touch more and its seems to give me a decent angle.

LeeLau Looking forward to seeing your angles ;)

I think this is what is pushing me towards the Vholder. For only $100 more you get laser sighting and HD

thinking about it, but just considering how quickly the novelty will wear off and it becomes another expensive toy that doesn't get used much.

tough to use when it's chest mounted or if you're by youself and it's helmet mounted.

Lee also rides 1000000 times more often and more interesting places than the average mortal.

For me I'm wondering if it's just going to be cool for a couple of months resulting in more wasted hours spent in front of a computer editing, only to have a bunch of movies that just sit on the hard drive than will never get watched again after you've seen them a couple of times.

but we're screwing up Dean's thread, sorry buddy.

Maybe Dean could start a new thread comparing different helmet cams?
