Helm MKII vs MKI damper

I used an air cap from a Helm Air with a Push Ind. spring that is about a bit shorter than the CC spring and made up the difference with 1" headset spacers to get 3 to 5mm preload. The Push springs come in 5 # increments so if you are between CC's firm/65#, medium55# & soft/45# these will help dial it in. IDK about the Ohlins spring's fitment.

The latest batch of Mk1 Coil had additional top out bumpers but I don't know if they did anything different with the bottom out bumper. I have not felt any bottom out and used full travel on a few occasions so maybe they have made some changes later in production.

The air cap is a great idea! My '12 Marzocchi 66 RC3 Evo came stock with a similar cap with a valve to add a few psi for bottom out resistance, but back in the days I just added a few more ccs of oil instead.

I was thinking a few cc's of oil would do the trick, but I'm intrigued by the air cap plus a few psi idea.

My Helm arrived today, it looks great and reducing the travel the internals look really well built. Unfortunately the DLoc axle is out of tolerance (15.2mm OD at one point) so won't fit the hub I have. Hopefully they can get one to me fast, I'm looking forward to riding it. I'll need an Ohlins 60lb spring too I suspect but will see how the stock 55lb goes.

I had a solid ride yesterday on the helm. Stock 55lb spring (calcs all come back at 60-62lb for me, and the 65lb landed separately today).

It’s super plush, I gave it a little extra love when changing the travel. It’s also got a really lively but controlled feeling that seems quite unique to the helm in my experience. The traction is unreal and it makes technical rooty climbing really satisfying.

The 55lb is definitely too light, there were a couple of huge bottom outs that were in no way the kind of thing I’d want a fork to experience often, or my body. 65lb in there now, a couple small tweaks to rebound and LSC, hopefully a good shake down on it tomorrow.

Did you get the Mk2 or Mk1? Are you using the D-loc QR or the bolt-on axle? (Edit : I found my answers from reading one of your previous posts!)

My Mk1 just left Suspension Werx who ended up replacing a broken valve spring and deformed bladder. I can't wait to try the new fork as it was like that from the beginning. This was covered under warranty so I can't complain. Also, they used their special blend 3wt oil instead of the stock 5wt so it should help with the overdamped feel. I am 180lbs all geared up and the stock spring seemed pretty bang on for me. It seems like a great fork, no creaking and nice finish too, I just wish I had the bolt-on axle but I'm not willing to pay 150$cdn for it!

150?? I see 60 USD, on Cane Creek's website. I'm going to get one because I left my axle on my bumper the other day (recovered it, but now I want a spare).

Oh nice! I had bookmarked Worldwide Cyclery's page and it was 145$cdn

Looks like I might get one from Cane Creek or call S4 suspension to see if they have one locally.

If you prefer a QR I could sell you mine for cheap (like new).

The bolt up is nicely done. I have felt like the MKII is over damped at all (and didn’t find that with the I).

I have no preference on axle style. Happy to take it off your hands as long as it’s around the same price as a bolt on axle would be. Dm me when you want to sell!
