I had my 3 bikes (norco 4by, norco aline, norco sasquatch) and all my gear, tools, spare parts, snowboards, longboards, and bike rack all stolen from my garage a few years back.

My first bike, a Kona Shred. I thought my life was going to end. It got ripped of with my friends Jamis and his brothers 02 Stinky. Long story short my friends bro tracked down and bought all 3 bikes off some crackheads who claimed they bought them and wanted no trouble for $80. Kinda weird, they swapped the back wheels on all of the bikes.

A long time ago. Neither bike was that impressive but they were all I had at the time;
-a fully rigid, 1990 Diamondback Apex locked up to a BBQ in Langley.
-a 1998 Schwinn Moab, right out of the back yard in East Van.

Super sux :( and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Lessons learned, very sad lessons.

Life is like riding a bicycle – in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.

Had one stolen, caught the guy riding it. He admitted it after a little bit. I've helped two people on the boards find their stolen bikes, and catch the bad guy. Sadly i doubt he's behind bars.

1: got mugged by 3 guys beaten and robbed. Bike recovered
2: left it locked up in the street over night. Bike not recovered.

Prefer scenario #2 honestly. My own stupidity, no physical harm. Easily avoidable.

My wife's Norco Six One was stolen from the bike room in the parking garage of our Conodo block: the thief followed are car (which didn't wait) through two security gates and then cut his way through the mesh bike room door. He then cut the bolts securing the bike rack to the floor and carried the bike and rack out of the building.

Bike was never seen again and we got screwed by the insurance company :'(

Had my DH stolen when i lived in lonsdale for a year. They cut through metal bars to get in the parkade, then cut the locks to get in the bike locker, then cut my bike U-lock… There must have been someone in the building that let the theives know about it. The building put up some plasic sheets on the parkage garage door after to make it harder to cut the metal bars and get in.

The building strata didn't allow bikes on your balcony, and we had no room in the apartment, so thats why it was in the bike locker. The RCMP officer basically told me to break strata rules and keep my bike on my balcony. He said the strata rules like this wouldn't actualy hold up in the courts.

My first bike ever. A kuwahara BMX that my parents got for me at a garage sale when I was six. It cost 50 dollars.

I had it for a year, never locked it anywhere, left it outside all night time and time again and eventually it got stolen.

I haven't had a bike stolen since.

Luckily, I've never had a bike stolen. I do keep my bikes in my living room, though…

How do stolen bikes get found? Do people check out local pond shops?

We were told that for bikes with high end components the thieves are more likely to sell the parts individually than try and sell the complete bike.
