since the all mighty loon has regained it's rightful place among global curencies, I ask, "has anyone taken advantage of the loonies strength?" if so what did you purchase and how much did you save?

Is it counter productive to ride on my exercise bike with a cocktail in hand?

I know a kid who bought some transition rims from the states. About 280 for 2 fully built wheels. I have no idea if that is a good deal for those rims or not though.

Given that the USD is in the shitter against most world currencies i would expect US prices to rise as China puts up its prices.
More expensive raw materials, tanking USD = higher prices. Already you can see the effect of this in bike spec - either prices have gone up, or spec has taken a hit for 2008. Most companies have taken the latter route, as its harder to spot.

Not really… $275 at North Shore Bike Shop.

I'm all for saving cash with cross-border shopping. but do your research first.

About the same I think. Does that include shipping?

Not really - the Chinese peg their currency to the USD - so the impact of the downward drift should be controlled there. The other thing that gets pegged is the price of oil which is set in USD. Canadian prices should be dropping…and probably so will the output of Canadian exporters…

even though you can save a couple $$$ buying from the US, you have to remember that if anything needs work or warranty, its ALWAYS better to buy locally

the fact we're getting screwed over by Canadian distributors (not bike shops) is even more apparent.

It really depends, if it's a component like a fork or something then it's deffinatly a safer bet to buy locally, but if its a pair of pedals or a jersey and you can save 20-30 bucks then buying online would be ideal.

hard to say on this one, i guess some people are saving money, some aren't it all depends on where you shop on line. However, I find some deal so ridiculous I don't know how they do it. Prices less than half the price they are here. Really almost all shops have the same retails, give or take, we shop where we shop. But how are some of these US prices so cheap. Who are our distributors getting things from. I am not saying distributors are ripping off shops or the end consumer. Are the distributors getting ripped off? It seems like some of our Canadian distributors are getting their products from USA distributors. Like Shimano Canada, who I believe buys from Shimano USA, and they get their gear from Shimano directly. It would be nice if the price gaps weren't so much in the cases that they are. I'm sure everyone likes buying from an LBS instead of the states.
