Start by checking the air pressure in the fork. It probably just needs pumping up.

Maybe start with a trip to a decent shop? Given the cost of a fork these days if you can wake that one up with some service or basic adjustment that’s at least worth a look. I’m guessing that’s a shock pump issue of some sort. I recently bought a similar era but also unserviced fork for my sons bike and it at least held air and rebounded.

Brake bleed, suspension service, fresh tires, and that might be enough to get rolling for now.

A whole new bike seems excessive but then again, could also be some extra incentive to ride more. So maybe that’s not the worst either!

it is a 2013 fork you cant get parts for it i have looked into  the idea of travel tokens they would have to be glued on  no threads for them on the top cap. no one would tell me if i could possably change top cap  the rest of bike has been updated to 1x shorter stem higher rise bars and has good hyd brakes so fork is only issue other than age of bike

Is that old revelation a dual air fork? If it is, did you check the negative pressure?

I feel like options for straight steerer (I assume it's straight) longer travel 29er forks are pretty limited.

On the flip side, the options for straight steerer rigid 29er forks with decent axle to crown lengths are pretty plentiful.

If you ask me, this bike is begging for a 480-510mm axle to crown rigid fork and to be used as a light trail/commute/gravel/all terrain beastie.

I believe that era of TransAm is a 44mm straight head tube, so takes tapered forks with an EC lower. Compatibility shouldn't be a problem. I would think he could even get a degree or so of slackening out of an angleset if desired.

Not sure what the cause of the issues with the current fork is. Halfton, are you a bigger or harder rider?

I have a 44mm head tube with a tapered steerer and a - 2° headset. Options available.

I'm not sure about all the options in that range, but I know there are lots of heavier guys who rave about Manitou products, if you were to go to a new fork.

The Revelation in that era was still a 32mm fork and so has a fairly small diameter air piston. The air spring may not hold more pressure than the guide says is the max.
