I know what Sam is using. Something that actually protects the hand/levers like a Bark Buster

I don't think Bark Busters are compatible with carbon handlebars. The stress concentration might even be dangerous for light aluminium bars. And then there could be the perception that hands would get trapped in them during a crash.
