Geometron G1 - Landed Cost?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a G1 frame. I know a few people on here have brought G1s into BC. I know Geometron will remove the VAT from the listed price when they invoice me for the frame but I can't figure out what the frame (or frame and fork) will cost me on this end (tax, duties, brokerage fees, ransom, etc). I'd be grateful if someone in Canada (preferably BC) could give me an idea of what their actual all-in cost to purchase a G1 frame or frame and fork was. DM works if you'd prefer not to post publicly.

Thanks in advance!

i‘d also consider getting the frame directly from nicolai, canada has a trade agreement with the eu, not with gb

Great point. I'll consider that for sure. Thanks.

IIRC the version of the EXT Storia that Nicolai gets isn't the same as the one Geometron gets, something something custom valving. Definitely confirm this. The frames are otherwise identical so save that cash if you can. Shipping and duties were significant for me.

Replacement derailleur hangers are insanely expensive to ship on their own so it's worth grabbing a few spares at the time of frame purchase. Same with mutators - if you think you're going to want to explore different geometry configurations consider grabbing the mutators you want at time of purchase.

Same frame. Geometron custom tunes the shock for rider weight, style, etc. Nicolai sells you a stock Storia with no custom valving or tuning.

CBSA has a duty and taxes estimator which includes importing bikes as an option. It doesn’t distinguish though between bikes from the UK and the EU. Basically the only distinction it accounts for is whether you’re importing from Canada, the US or Mexico. The rest of the world is lumped in as one single “other”. So, as far as CBSA’s estimator is concerned, Germany and the UK are the same for tax and duty purposes: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/dte-acl/est-cal-eng.html

The estimator tells me that tax and duty on an approx $4500 frame, shock, headset and seat collar from Geometron would be just under $1200. Ouch. Does that seem to be around the correct amount?

$1200 in duties seems like way too much. I'm almost certain mine was <$200 which seemed fair enough given the price of the frame.

About 1/2 of that $1200 is duty.  The other 1/2 is tax.  Does that still seem higher than you remember? Thanks again.

It looks to me like that calculator is assuming a complete bike which has 13% duties. I think frames only have 5% IIRC.

Also it applies 12% tax but AFAIK you only pay GST (5%) on bicycles and bicycle parts in BC.

You should be able to look all of this up online.

I bought my G1 frame in November 2020.

I got dinged with the fluctuations in the exchange when I ordered. I paid almost 1k more because of the exchange rate from GBP to CAD.

If only I'd ordered a week earlier. Oh well.

Once it landed I was charged $238 for duty.

I bought a MOJO G16 from the UK a few years back. I recall ~$200 taxes owed.

You should be charged 5% GST + $10 CBSA Fee.

There is no Duty or PST on frames/parts. If the frame is charged this at

No Fee Foreign Exchange CC FTW

Get MOJO to ship via Royal Mail to Canada Post; lest you enjoy sodomy.

For anyone who is interested, I just paid my bill through FedEx. Frame should arrive tomorrow. Looks like charge is only GST + a $10 fee from FedEx. No customs charges from what I can tell (unless a customs bill comes separately with the delivery itself).

Also, review up on that other website today…
