I went to 5 shops in NV yesterday with no luck. Does anyone know where this can be purchased?
FOX 5wt. Teflon Infused Oil for GRIP. Where to buy.
I'd call Suspension Werx

Any shop with a Raceface/Fox account can order it in... it is in stock. Or yeah, Suspensionwerx....

How important is it to use the branded oils? I just bought the rockshox stuff and it was around 80$ for the bottles for the front and rear. Can I just use equivalent weight motor oil?

Viscosities vary greatly among brands. One companies 5wt can be another companies 10wt. Application also matters. If you need the oil for dampers, it matters alot. If its just splash oil (like the lowers of most forks), then you can get away with some nice synthetic motor oil of similar weight.
