Fork Adjustmant Question?

Well, I just boutght a 2002 4X4 and the soon to be replaced fork on it is WAY too soft, seeing as it didn't come with the fork manual, and there's no descriptive name on it to look up, although I believe it a Wedge(it's the stock fork, Black lowers not silver ifg that's important)? I need to know if anyone out there knows what if any compression adjustment this thing has? do I need to run stiffer springs? do I add more oil(I've seen that solution poseted numerous times)?

Help me out…this thing is sucking all the pop out of my DJing…

Otherwise, I love this frame…:D

Take a picture of it, I'm sure someone will be able to identify it

from the sounds of it there is no compression adjustment, just preload. Changing the oil viscosity is about all you can do.

Ahh…that's what I was thinking…and those are pre-load adjusters yes?

Yeah, looks like you're right, but the pre-load might help as well, at least to fight the lack of rebound I'm experiencing…

Thanks guys

Throw some 15w oil in there. That'll slow them down.

It is better to regret something you did, rather than to regret something you didn't do.

the stock fork is a wedge, but says it should be silver????.
http://www.norco.com/bikes/2002bikes/vps4by4.htm
marz shows the wedge being black??is this the fork?

110mm to 130mm Travel
NEW Open Bath SSV Valving (SSVF upgrade kit available)
Coil Springs
Alloy Powerwrap 'M'-Arch
Internal Preload [HTML_REMOVED] Rebound Control
30mm Aluminum Stanchions

since we don't know your weight it would be tuff to say if you need a spring change or not.i would definetely say raise the oil height to max and if you weigh more then 150# up the oil wt.10wt seems to be not to bad of place to start, as 15wt will turn the fork into a slug, imo.
marz says 60mm is max oil height,i would bet money the oil level is alot lower then that.
here's the manual for your fork, although it not highly informative it will help you.

hope this helps,bry

preload and spring weight have nothing to do with rebound control….except that a stiffer spring will make rebound harder to control.
Preload is used to set sag…it does nothing else.
Spring weight can be used to help set both sag and help prevent bottoming out.
Thicker oil will slow both the compression and the rebound.

FIRST THING you need to do…check the oil level, Marz is notorious for sending forks out LOW on oil, and this makes them bottom out super easy, among other things. If it's low, top it up with 10w…..if this doesn't make things reasonably ok(it is just a Wedge:lol: )…..drain the oil out and fill it to spec with 10w oil….if it still bottoms too harsh….add oil to the max spec allowed.

Good luck…..Mustang Hater:mad:

 Loopie you damn Mustang Lover…yeah, I realized that about the time I went and screwed with it…do I just take the Top caps off to add oil? Like the big hex head cap? I've never serviced a fork before, and I'm not game to have the thing not running for any ammount of time…

Yeah, It's Black but with White/Grey Graphics…and from the feel of the thing, it doesn't have all those goodies in it, well, maybe? shit if it did I'd be stoked…130 mm travel? is that like the DJ's where you have to dissassemble the thing to change it?

thanks for the help guys…
cheers
Dave

hey is it possible that Norco used an OEM fork model, and that it's nothing like the 2002 Wedge on the Marz web site? cause it doesn't say Z1 wedge, just wedge, and the color scheme is all wrong…thought I'd heard of companies doing that…:???:
