Flat Pedal Foot Placement

Calling all flat pedal riders out there…

Where do you place your feet on the pedals?

Do you ride in more of a 'clipless style' ball of the foot position, or do you ride closer to the centre/arch of your foot?

midfoot close to arch gives you more power as lets you use your bigger muscle groups to push with out as much calf needed just to balance the foot.

depends on terrain for me , but mid foot typically , and shoes do make a difference use a mtb specific design less abuse on your feet , and last longer tread wise from my experience .

Generally centered on the ball of the foot, but if I am doing a large jump I move my foot forward a bit.

Ball of foot to mid-arch, but I ride a singlespeed and move my feet around a lot.

For pedaling or for riding down?

As a park rat, I've usually had them more on the balls of my feet but have moved them up a bit to save me from the times I go to flat.

For pedaling, climbing, etc, ball of the foot over the spindle, arch over the spindle and dropped heels for descending.

Ride, don't slide.

I tend to be a ball of the foot guy.

This as well. Find arch over spindle is a good position for rough terrain, drops, etc. Foot is less likely to slip off pedals, and don't hyperextend achilles on heavy landings.

Another vote for ball of foot over spindle on climbs then foot forward a bit on descents. Same for park riding.

I usually have the spindle between the ball of my foot and the middle of my arch…really depends on the terrain and how I am feeling at the moment.

That's the beauty you can change all the time, not locked in to one position.

Good advice here. I just keep my feet on the pedals unless I am doing Indian airs or no-footed cans. Then I wake up.
