Not the stiffest sole but it gives better pedal feel

Not the stickiest of five ten compounds but easier to move around on the pedal

Comfortable.  Affordable compared to other options.

I raise my beer glass and toast the classic Freerider.

Unhinged.  I am.

Freerider ELC over here, spring rides, plenty of splashes kept out of the laces by the cover.

I so wanted to love them....not burly looking like some other models, casual enough for off-the-bike.....but, the stiffness of the sole was worse than on my BMX-specific Vans or my Ride Concepts Vice.

Thus, I only ride in Vans or RC Vice at present.

I find the  5/10 freerides work just about perfect for me, I could even get them small enough altho I had to  use  an insole to take up some room

Stiffness wise they are very much like my old axo dually  which were great  flat shoe with the high top & lots of padding around the axle

I'm shocked to hear this.  Mine are far stiffer than any skate shoe I've had.  But you say "bmx-specific" so maybe that's the difference.

I like the Freerider for enduro, especially because they are lighter, but prefer the bulk of the Impact model for DH.

The BMX-specific Vans are stiffer than their normal shoes. They have an insole that has a nice padding for the balls and the heel, plus the grip is nice - somewhere between RC Vice and 5.10 - but then again, shoes are like helmets and grips.....it all comes down to personal preferences and if it fits.  And they are cheaper than 5.10 Freerider.

I’m flat-curious and am wondering about shoes for my “trail”-riding

I currently use some leather Vans Old-Schools and they’re good but I think I could use something a bit more “serious” and with a stiffer sole.

No thinking choice is the free rider, but should I be looking at something from RC or a different 5.10?  Specialized XC/road shoes work best for me, do they have a good XC/Trail flat pedal shoe?
