I rode mostly all of last year without dropping a chain once. Ok, I did drop one but it was because of a small pebble that got stuck in my chain.
This year, I have dropped a chain on almost every ride. Today I dropped the chain twice.
I have a new drivetrain, everything being the same as last year except for a XKM chainring. The chainring seems to be exactly the same as my SRAM ring in terms of position (q factor?) and tooth shape. FWIW I was dropping chains on my SRAM ring too.
The clutch tension on the derailleur seems to be good still, but if I were to guess, that's what is causing the dropped chains. Is it possible that it can lose spring tension?
Any ideas?
On a related note, I bought an E13 XCX chain guide a while ago, but the plastic essentially crumbled as I was mounting it. It seems like E13 had some bad plastic that ended up being too brittle. Maybe I need to suck it up and go old school with a proper chainguide.
