So im gonna get a new fork for the new season and im really torn between the dorado pro and a boxxer wc (or it might end up being the R2C2). Ive heard good things about both and I just cant decide. What are your guys opinions on these two?

anything that you put on the front of your bike in this pricepoint is going to be good….pick what one looks the coolest, they'll all do the same thing

dorado = feels good, fugly, inverted, can't speak to its reliability

boxxer = looks cool, light, feels like a turd, requires incessant maintenance, blow up regularly

40 = looks cool, feels good for 3 rides after an overhaul before performance tanks, more maintenance than a boxxer (!!!!!), can expect multiple failures throughout the season (even more than a boxxer) and a piss poor warranty to boot.

888 = looks cool, stellar performance, reliable, local product support, a bit heavier

Buy: 888
Maybe buy: Dorado
Don't buy: Boxxer
Avoid like plague: 40

What makes the 40 such a dog while the 36's (at least mine) seem pretty reliable?

not sure… i've only got experience on a 40… mine came stock on my bike

seals constantly blew up, spewing of oil everywhere, dead feeling mid-travel 3 rides after a rebuild

after 5 overhauls in two months (by myself, shops, and warranty) i got fed up and booted the fork for the 888.

i would have though i had a lemon, but friends forks were equally piss-poor.

2 buddy's got shafted on warranty because their forks "weren't serviced frequently enough". despite one buddy's 8 rebuild receipts…

havent riden one, but the lay out of the internals is a lot like whats inside the travis, but with lots of extra goodies, like a hydraulic botteming system.

an airbacked travis cart feels amazing when you put it to geather right.

I've heard that the Elka cart is exactly like the Travis cart…when compared side to side. Not sure on the performance though.

Sounds brutal.

you're probably not doing enough maintenance. :woot:

trick for getting forks with minimal bath oil to feel sweet: turn 'em upside down the night before your ride.
