Do you hose your bike?

Steel hardtail. I hose it. Drivetrain and all. There's a lot of mud/pine needles/squirrel fur that builds up in there. I don't see the issue with hosing down the drivetrain. I clean and lube the chain regularly too (every 3 rides maybe?)

Wrong. Always.

We store our bikes inside so they have to be reasonably clean. I use a garden hose and nozzle with light pressure and use a wide stream around stanchions/pivot hardware. I'm mostly trying to get the tires/downtube/drivetrain cleaned up a bit. No problems yet.

Well yeah I'd hose down the chain too if it were especially cruddy but that in and of itself would be reason to lube it.

I hose it down with the nozzle set at high volume low velocity. I avoid the pivots headset and bottom bracket. I only hose it off when it gets me dirty putting it on the rack. I hose the drive train and brakes. I do oil my chain before every ride or after I hose it off.

Hose down the frame and rinse the more delicate parts (I'm talking about the bike) after every dirty ride. Then dry and lube the chain.

I'm terrible, I use my pressure washer. I stay away from the bearings and seals. Never had an issue.

Washing down your bike will definitely reduce the service life of the bushings/bearings on your bike, no matter how careful you are . I just let the dirt and mud dry and then brush it off.

This.

I live / ride on the North Shore, so yes I do ride in the mud and rain and yes this does get dirt and grit into the bearings. Still don't want to drive additional grit into the rotating bits by hosing down the bike though.

I wash my downhill bike if it's muddy, bike wash spray, brush and garden hose. Mid summer dust I just wipe fork seals and lube the chain.
Pulled my all my pivots apart recently and there was no sign of rust anywhere.
