I'm sure many know this but it is worth mentioning.

Always check the price differential between GB Pounds and the CAN $.

I just ordered 105 shifters and front derailleur. Already a smoking deal on clearance at $142 Canadian.

When paid in GBP it was 80 or $118 with exchange. That's an extra 17% off. Couple that with the Amazon Visa (no exchange fees) and it's all savings.

no shit. hate to do it to the LBS but ordered a pair of xtr trail pedals yesterday. 116 bucks. jeez eh. if they last 5+ yrs which is fully possible, this is a very reasonable price. i never thought about doing it that way though.

Can you clarify the no fees part? You are paying their spread but maybe not the 2.5% you would expect from Visa. How did you end up with such a substantial difference?

Isn't 17% the VAT, which doesn't apply to international purchases anyway?

If not, this is compelling.

By no fees I mean the above and beyond fees most cards charge. Naturally the standard FOREX fees apply for the spread. Check out the Amazon visa if you shop international regularly. My 17% may be high, maybe closer to 14?

VAT is based on location being shipped. Currency options are British pound and Can dollar when shipping to Canada. Neither have the VAT included.

I was in the UK this summer and in the touristy areas was often offered to pay in CAD or Pound and given the value of each. With quick math I generally saved 5-10% paying in GBP over CAD. This results from the rates the vendor pays, plus whatever markup they end up adding.

Under the Clearance promotion, clicked on a link in an email.

Shifters were individual, not a set. Also included 10pounds off over a set amount.

It was $450 for the full gruppo at Ribble.

It was even lower at Ribble a couple months ago when pound took it's initial pounding.

Not bad but you will get dinged with duty as it is a full bike. If there is a way to get them to ship the bike and wheels separate however…

Order dispatched on the 12th.
Mail slip arrived today.
States COD, $15.XX for customs.

No problem. Stuff I bought ended up being about 70% off typical retail (end of year clearance items). Happy to slap $15 to Zed and The Gimp. Likely the last order of the season anyway…

There it is - 7 days all in - including a weekend.

See ya next year CRC :rave:

Latest order, stuff for the kid's bike - tires, grips, pedals etc around $80. Shipped Sept.20, arrived Sept. 26. Too big for the box so had to pick it up at the outlet, no fees.

My $450 fork in a large box came from Taiwan, no fees or tax. So once again seems like customs is completely random as I've heard of a number of people with [HTML_REMOVED]$200 orders get taxed recently.

Excellent news for both posts above!!

I think I did 7 orders this past season.

2 got the Gimp and Zed treatment; 1 majorly (customs, duties, and full taxes), the other just a handling fee and GST. Average order was about $375 and there was no rhyme or reason which orders got Zed and Gimped - the most expensive order came through clean; one of the cheaper ones got snagged. It is what it is.

Batting average is more than satisfactory for me to come back next year all the same.

Wish there was a "CRC like" business for skiing/winter-sports. I'd be all over that like a fat kid on a Smartie.

A1 bucket, Hope rotor, a couple small parts and a t shirt for the wife. Total was around $300. Six days to the post office down the road. $16 in fees. Pretty sure it was the damn t shirt!
