Do you buy from CRC?

Jumped on XT M8000 being in stock and I get a shipping notice for a chain.

Sometimes they ship the order in parts, depending on availability. But usually they let you know if that's the case. Otherwise email them and ask what is going on, especially if you are going to wait forever for the rest of the kit. Tell them you wanted the whole thing ASAP and if it has been turned into a preorder, tell them to cancel it if you don't want to wait. They are usually pretty good about returns.

did it actually say in stock? they've had it listed on the site for over a month, always out of stock (that i've seen [except for the chain]). probably looking to hook pre order suckas

1/2 the items were in stock and 1 said "1 left" when I hit the checkout. I was willing to wait on the entire order (as indicated in the checkout process) for the last few bits to show up now that they'd shown it was going to be an in stock item.

wow, maybe there was a run on what stock was available. everything is showing out of stock still/now/again

I haven't received it yet. But I've never had to pay brokerage with Parcelforce before. I've had this happen before with an order over $500, where I wasn't charged for shipping or tracking or brokerage, but I assumed it was because the shipment was worth so much.

I'll post when I receive it and let everyone know.

I just finished an e-mail conversation with CRC. Confirmed DHL is the default (free) shipper now. The option (that you have to pay for) is FedEx. No more Royal Mail/Parcel Force. Apparently they believe that being able to track your package is worth more than the unknown/exorbitant brokerage fee that DHL is going to charge. No more CRC for me either I dont think. :(

That's not good. Definitely a deal breaker unless I'm spending lots, saving lots and willing to deal with disputing the DHL fees.

I have had good experiences and great prices from a few German shops. Both of which hand off to Canada post:

I've shopped around at other places, but if your order is around $100 (and you can always pad your order to get it to $100 - literally - I often buy brake pads as filler), free shipping was often the deal maker. However, if free shipping is no more, that will probably change. I don't often find better prices for small/low end stuff elsewhere after shipping. For example, I believe bike-discount.de and bike-components.de and have flat $28 (that is Euro conversion) flat shipping rate for all orders to Canada, no matter how big or small plus an additional $28 bulky item charge for bigger items.

Certainly you need to do your homework on each purchase but even factoring in that flat $28 you are saving big $$ on some stuff by using the german shops.

e.g. Zee brakes are $140 an end at CRC. You can get both f+r from bike discount for $197 at today's exchange rate… $225ish after shipping is a whole lot better than the CRC price.

Agreed, some of the German sites are the best for deals even with the shipping costs.

Thing is, I rarely buy any one thing over $100 … but I will definitely look around more.

Mine have all been handed off to Canada post. Costs at the door have been the standard Canada post $10ish handling fee + GST.

DHL delivers from Germany and then hands off to Canada Post. I guess it isn't so much a courier service in Germany rather ordinary mail
