^^^ I don't think the masses will ever jump from going to a lbs IMHO. Those who post on this site are not the typical bike consumer. We have very specific wants (hell we argue about having 2 less teeth on a ring will make us faster). Most here do all their own wrenching.

The masses don't know the difference between 32 or 34mm stanchions and don't care to do their own wrenching. They want their bike running now and if they want an upgrade they will likely buy local for the convenience and the quick advice they get from their shop.

nope. exhibit a: germany, we even buy complete bikes online (canyon, yt industries, other cheap online only brands)

that's what i would have figured. so a shop can stock a few replacement sets for 10spd and be covered for ~75% of the traffic coming through their door? or pull a set off a drl in stock while telling you "yeah i got your pulleys right here" then special-order a replacement pair. maybe i'm splitting hairs, but that doesn't sound like a bike "industry" problem to me, for like a failure of planning/imagination

I recall the Simon at Simon's on Robson was the king of that. When the reps came in first thing he was asking what stock you go in clear out or willing to sell cheap in bulk. No high end stuff when it came to that. Saw him once order Kool Stop V Brake pads in some colour that Norco wasn't selling well. Bought like 500 plus and sold em.

He would buy tires same way. And as the Norco Rep said once he was the only one that seemed to be able to do it.

When they run out of 1mm increments to fuck around with, will they go straight to 0.25mm differences or take the intermediate step of going to 0.5mm?

I was reading the bikemag article about the axle size and what they've done in theory makes sense for adding stiffness. 142 gained stiffness by the axle-frame interface but uses the same hub-flange interface as 135. Apparently the flanges on the Trek hub are wider, which transfers more lateral load into the hub rather than the spokes. Their goal was to go as wide as possible without changing q-factor on the cranks. Apparently the DH 150 mm standard is actually wider than that and would have not worked with that goal.

Whether the effects on the trail are noticeable remains to be seen.

And it would have been nice had they attempted to create a wheel with wider flange spacing with existing 142 rather than creating a new axle standard.

Is CRC still shipping using Royal Mail (handed over to Canada Post)?

ParcelForce is Royal Mail's equivalent to Canada Post's Purolator.

I ordered from CRC a few weeks ago (headset and some headset related tools). They passed it over to Canada Post.
